My phone is due for renewal soon enough and I had some time to kill today so I had a wander round the O2 shop and had a play on the iPhone.

I know Andy has one so can he, or others, give me some opinions on it? I know there is the newer version coming out next month but O2 dont have details yet on how it will be priced. The only main difference that I can see between the current one and the newer one is that the new one has GPS on it.

The new iPhone is also 3G and has a larger capacity battery. I think it also comes with a choice of larger memories.

I want one too! Can you only use it on O2? I want to stay with T Mobile!

See that's exactly the approach I take with such things. As long as it makes and recieves calls and texts, I really don't have any other requirements of a mobile phone - and they all do so much more than that these days, it gets confusing so I tend to just leave it to the experts.

3G is pretty much broadband speed internet on your phone.

I was watching the BBC iPlayer in the O2 shop which was pretty sexy. Granted, that was a wi-fi connection.

Hmmm iPhone, where to begin...console is right the battery has been given a make over. Yes it has GPS and yes it has 3G which is not quite as good as wi-fi.....you need wi-fi to access you-tube, i-tunes, iplayer etc....

It IS only available with O2 and i would certainly not recommend unlocking it with one of the many various programmes that are freely available on the net so that you can use whatever sim card you like in it.

Both the current and new iPhones come in 8GB or 16GB size....

Oh and actually O2 DO have details on how it will be priced.....http://www.o2.co.uk/iphone (how do you do that thing where it's just one word rather than the whole lonk thingy?)

I'm gonna upgrade mine for nothing and then either give/sell my old one to someone on PAYG.

Anything else anyone wants to know about it?

The Jesus Phone v2 will be available on O2 only, free with £45 a month contracts - for the 8gig version anyway. It's better than version one. That's about as much praise as I'm giving it.

Pretty is a very subjective term...you've seen mine, the new one looks (almost) exactly the same...oh apart from it's got a plastic back instead of adamantium which means it will scratch more.

Reliable.....hmmmm dpends what for really, signal is same as anything else on O2. there are a few glitches in it but they release fairly regular software updates which sort most of them out.

I'm quite impressed that they seem to have signal on the underground...there are a few places I can send texts and emails from...I've even taken a call on Kings Cross Platform once which freaked people out!

Didn't Chris Say that his iPhone gets signal in the Radio 1 studios deep in the dungeons?

Do you mean "can't send" or "can send"?

Does this mean it has something clever that gives out a stronger signal?

When you say you need wi-fi to access those feature... do you NEED it, as in it can only work on wi-fi, or do they work on other connections but are slower?

With regards to the pricing, is that not the current iphone? The girl in the shop said that they had not told them yet.

And to imbed a url in a word:

On the current iPhone you NEED wi-fi to access those features and the pricing as far as I understand it is exactly the same. 8GB is free to people on £45/£75 contract and 16GB free to those on £75 month....

The whole point of the new iphone is that it's twice as fast for half the price of the original which they are no longer producing.

Do you mean Kings Cross Circle/Met/Hammersmith &City Line platform? Me too, you do get odd looks! Plus I know the short code, only available with O2 phones, to use the Underground internal phone system from your mobile! Wont be telling though or I'll get the sack!!

Thats a bit baws. She said in the shop that the reason that the unlimited downloads was included in the package was because of using youtube etc.

I was too busy fannying about with how to actually get the link to work to notice.
