Our local radio were discussing this on Saturday, so:-

What is your idea of the ultimate Summer anthem? :-)

Interesting.

In the Summer time by the Kinks?
That one that goes " we are young we are free"
Rolf Harris and the Court of King Caractcus.

"Oh boys who put the stitches in the scintillating whitches were just passing by" "Altogether now"

The song is called 'Alright', although I can't think who it's by (it is a stupid name, if I recall correctly, though).

I don't know about the 'ultimate' summertime song, but I hate the song 'Staying out for the summer', not because its a bad song, but its use on the Advert for Haven (Other Holiday parks are available). The lyrics aren't exactly inspiring for a holiday -
'Im staying out for the summer
Playing games in the rain
The hills and the fortune
Got me fooled again"
But its the riff that does it, its the most moody, slow, depressing miserable piece of music, a classic case of the advertising board picking the song by name only.

I love 'Alright', I've got Supergrass' best of, but I'm not a big enough fan to have any of the other albums.

Upbeat Beatles tracks tend to make me feel quite summery, even though they're not specifically about summer.. 'I Want to Hold Your Hand', 'Can't Buy Me Love', that kind of thing.

No, not at all. Music can appeal to all ages. Currently I have on my favorite play list everything from Adge Cutler to Scouting for Pigeon Wombats (Footloose) from Ten Pole Tudor through Dexy's midnight runners, counting crows, B52's on to Vampire Weekend and Duffy. I don't like Dance music or Rock or Metal, only some Rap & R&B, but pretty much all the rest I like in part.

Music is art, and does not have a shelf life.

Is that a compliment or an insult? I don't understand...

I don't think it's either. It just means Dolly Parton may appeal to a teenager, or Green Day may appeal to a grandpa.
