Munki Bhoy wrote:Still fancy a Federer/Nadal final

Until today I thought it'd be Djokovic v Nadal. Now I think it'll be Federer v Nadal again, but I think Nadal will get it this year. Stick your neck out and predict a winner.

I don't think it will be to be honest. I still think a Mr Roddick could make it, and plus for Nadal to get to the final, he'll have to beat Murray in the Semi's.....

Nadal can beat Murray no problem. They both have to get there first and I have a feeling Murray may not. He may do, but I'm not so sure. I'm reasonably sure he'll get to the second week, but beyond that is far from certain.

Anne Keothavong is putting in a gutsy performance so far against Venus; sure it's early days and she's only prolonging the inevitable, but she's giving it her all.

I know what you mean about Keothavong, she really is holding her own at the moment and it takes a lot to break Venus' serve at the best of times so to do it literally straight after being broken yourself is an achievement in itself.

People are also fancying Chris Eaton to win his match today. I think he can from what I saw of him the other day but it will take a very good performance to beat Mr Henman's nemesis.

Oh, i just went and put £2 on Andy Roddick to win Wimbledon. He's third favourite at a price of 16/1. Nadal is 7/4 and Federer is 4/7.*

I got 7/4 at William Hill on Nadal on Tuesday before his first round match.

Keothavong very nearly broke again, how good would that have been! At this rate, she may take a set. Also, Nadal is now a set down. He'll come back though. Probably.

Wow, I never thought I'd see the words "Venus clings on" in this match. Brit's are holding their own this year.....well they aren't embarrassing themselves anyway.

I wish I was watching these matches, rather than watching scores on the Wimbledon web site and BBC journalists trying to be witty.

Seconded....i would watch them live on the bbc website however, our IT people decided to block Streaming Media so can only watch scores update on Wimbledon. Could only do that from yesterday when I had to ask for them to install Flash

We can watch them, but it's kinda taking the piss a bit too much. I'll watch tonight.

It sounds like Keothavong was a bit unlucky not to at least get that to a tie-break. Ah well, we shall see how much she's got in her to push this one close.

Winner this year - Nadal. There, the neck is on the line.

Not much mind you. I could have said Andy Murray would win it, that would be sticking my neck on the line properly.

I would also be classed as a total mentalist.

Hang on... Sharapova and Hantuchova went out today? Well that's just bobbins. I'll need to watch purely for the tennis now.

I like most sport in general. I don't always understand it (though I do understand tennis), but I enjoy it. I'm not really into football as much as a lot of other people because I get bored with it. It's fair to say I have a soft spot for racket sports. It's a shame badminton, squash and (of course) table tennis isn't on telly more often. It's also a shame the other tennis Grand Slams aren't on terrestrial.

Ana is still in. Just.

I may get slaughtered for saying this, but the standard of women's tennis is complete shite. It's only worth watching for Ana et al.

Not her tennis. Women's tennis is abysmal at the moment, it has been good in the past. I seriously think all the men in Wimbledon would beat all the women 6-0, 6-0.

That's always been the case though. Even when Navratilova and Graff were at their peaks, they both happily accepted that anyone in the men's top 500 would smoosh them. But it will always be like that in any game where physiology is a key.

Whilst the women's game is undoubtedly poor in terms of quality, for entertainment and interest I actually prefer watching it to the men's. I find men's tennis (especially on grass courts) to be totally dull these days, totally power based and without any variation. Clay courts make for better games, but its still pretty dull. And now Roddick is out, there isn't even anyone left in the men's event who actually seems to enjoy playing. They are such a miserable bunch of arses.

The best tennis is to be seen in the doubles events (although even that isn't as good as it was). The mixed doubles last year was one of the best events I've ever watched. Good result too.

Yeah, the doubles was good last year. And I do agree with that, but the women's game is still poor compared days gone by.. Graf and Navratilova, as you say, but also Virginia Wade, Billie Jean King, etc.

Women's tennis has somewhat improved over the last couple of years. A couple of years back the French Open had one of the worst finals ever when Dementieva played Myskina. It was just absolutely shite however, there are a number of good players in there now, with virtually any one of them in the top ten able to compete for a title.

Oh, I shouldn't have wasted my £2, can't believe Roddick is out! I agree with you Yuds, Roddick is one player who really seems to enjoy playing regardless of the end result.

If Murray can play like he did against Malisse throughout the tournament, he has a good chance of making the final four.

What may be Nadal's undoing (and what ultimately proved to be Djokovic's undoing) is playing Queen's just before this. Usually they play and get knocked out in the first couple of rounds, then they can go and have a practice before Wimbledon.. that was a hard fought final between the two of them though and may prove too much. I still wouldn't bet against him though.

I agree Murray could end up in the final four, but with Federer and Nadal in opposite sides of the draw, I don't fancy anyone else to get further than the semis. I think Murray could be the first British player to win a Grand Slam for a very long time (and it's probably more likely to be at Wimbledon than anywhere else), but not for a few years yet. It would be nice to stop the rot that's been there since Fred Perry (who, incidentally, was World Table Tennis Champion before he was a multiple Grand Slam winner.) It's just a shame that arrogant Murray is likely to be the one to do it.

I don't mind him being arrogant. Its his terminal dullness that offends me.

Murray s quite boring, even depressing at times but i fancy him winning the Australian Open as a grand slam more than anything else

I'm surprised to see Topher reckons he will win Wimbledon. He doesn't have a grass court game as far as I can see.

I don't think he's a bad grass player and the crowds always get behind the Brits, which must act as a boost.
