Topher wrote:Excellent, well done. You should look on the PCSO thing as a platform for getting into the regulars (if that is your overall aim, which it sounds like it is.) My advice personally would be to get in when you can as a PCSO. It may be worth a phone call to see if they can estimate when your start date may be, assuming you pass the fitness and medical. I'm not sure whether they'll be able to answer that or not, but you never know.

Thanks Tophs, I'm so happy. I'd hoped you'd answer actually as you'd probably know the most as Mrs Topher is a PCSO isn't she? Is there actually a fitness test then? I know there is in the force (I would like to eventually become an officer) I thought there might be but they haven't mentioned it as of yet.

About contacting them, thats a really good idea actually. I might do that. At least then if they tell me, I can estimate whether it'll be worth starting my new job or not. However...

Topher wrote:Personally, even if you're waiting a few months for this, I think you ought to stick the other job in the wayside and carry on with the job you admittedly don't like, but you've just got to be a bit patient now. It may happen quicker than you think. Just phone the other people and say you're very sorry, but you've had a better offer and it's something you can't afford to turn down - gives them a bit more time to advertise again and while it's an inconvenience, they'll be grateful for your honesty.

I've already handed in my notice here and they've already started advertising my job, can I really cancel my "notice" now?

Ahem.. she is, but she is no longer Mrs Topher, I'm afraid. She is, however, starting as a PC next month.

Good point, I didn't think of that. It may be worth asking if you can stay on a bit longer, perhaps they can tell the applicants that the job isn't available for a couple of months, or perhaps you can help train them? It depends how flexible they're willing to be I suppose.

I hope you're joking Viv.

I'm sorry Tophs, I didn't know. Although I'm sure you've mentioned it previously, in which case I forgot, I would never have said that if I knew. I apologise.

Oh I see, ok. I shall ask no more.

Good point... at least then it'll look like I'm being helpful. I just never like messing people about. I guess I should learn to start to be more assertive and just do what I want rather what other people want.

Don't worry about it.

She was.

I've hinted about it, but if you weren't to know it's not your fault.

You're not the only one.

I got the hint but was taking the more manly route of ignoring it and pretending it will go away. In the absence of being anywhere MK and therefore there are no pubs we can both go to. There is nothing I can do to help so I'm relying on the fall back option of saying nothing and ignoring it.

It's a tactic that has worked for men for generations and I don't think it's gonna fail now.

It's just wasn't meant to happen. Anyhow, Tophs is a nice guy, and hopefully the next person will value him more. In the meantime, he could always get sozzled alone.

ok what a lot of information in one go!

Rusty - go for it PCSO is a good way to start

Tophs - god I'm glad it's out in the open although I was hoping you would have resolved it by now

Andy - the ignoring thing fools no one!

Yuds - rare is the only way to have a steak

Making me smile - I have 2 days off and god I need it!

My sister told me what her (now ex-)boyfriend's four year old daughter said this morning... she complained that "mummy wouldn't let me in her bed on two mornings this week - once because Darren was there and once because Stuart was there!"

Making me smile today. As I posted in the annoying thread last week, we had to put our old dog down last Tuesday which was a bit sad. On Thursday, I asked Dad if he had given thought to getting a new dog (We had decided not to get a new pup while Hollie was still alive cos it wouldn't be fair on her). He said he didnt really want to think about it, but yes, we would be at some point. We figured we would go for another labrador and that we would stick to getting a female one.

I said that it might be worthwhile speaking to the farm we got Hollie from and see if they are still breeding pups. He called them yesterday. This is where it gets spooky...

The farm hasn't really been breeding dogs for a few years now until this year. The new pups were born last week! Thats the same week Hollie died! There is only one female dog in the litter! AND this new pup will be Hollies great-grand-niece!

We are hopefully going to see her tomorrow evening. :D
