On Saturday morning, Nihal was discussing festivals, and whether listeners were the type to go to a festival, or not.

What do you say? Do you fancy a lot of mud & noise, for a chance to see a band live? Or would you be happier mud-free, simply listening to a festival such as Glastonbury, on the radio?

I think I agree with Moyles - the problem with Glastonbury and such things is that there is too much going on, and the distances between everything are huge. I would like something like the Isle of Wight festival, one massive stage, no choice - mud would be ok there!

I agree. Definitely too much of everything. Personally, I totally don't fancy being up to my neck in mud, and being unwashed for about 3 days. Unbearable.

Oh, I would only consider it if I had a hotel to go to overnight! I need showers, proper toilets and a decent bed! I don't do camping.

I did camping once with a mate. We were up all night frozen to death, then went hiking in the morning.

By evening, I didn't know who I was, where I was, or what time it was.

As a genereal rule, I can't get dressed in the morning or leave the house without a shower, under any circumstances.. usually that means having two showers in the morning before work if I go to the gym. However, I wonder if I may be able to tolerate it knowing everyone else was in the same boat. It would be difficult.

I simply wouldn't go to work, or even go outside, unwashed. No bloody way.

I'm going to V festival which is significantly smaller and therefore easier to navigate than glastonbury.

My friends and I have come up with 3 posibilities for washing

1) We get up really early each morning to take advantage of the showers
2) We take a load of wet wipes and lots of deoderant
3) We drink so much and so often that we don't care. Whisky for breakfast type of thing

So far number 3 is looking the best option.

I think my brother has the right idea

He worked on security at Glasto this year and last year

He had to do 3 8 hour shifts over 7 days at the site, but gets paid to be there plus free tickets and has access to the security teams showers and canteen(2 meals paid for a day) and apparently clean toilets!

I have never done a festival but I am hoping to go to V next year, unfortunatly I can't make it this year so I will have to wait. I have heard Vis good for Festival Virgins.....

im going to v fest this year, its great, i've been before and its a really good party atmosphere and i met loads of new friends. suprised camping tickets are still up for grabs!

This is precisely how I feel. Too many surf trips to Mexico. I will never camp again!

This is me, too. And, no, you wouldn't be able to tolerate it. That just means everyone else is wandering around smelly and grubby and you'd feel even dirtier for it. And look, you have a spelling error

It's a mixture of 2 & 3 for me!

I'm going to Reading again this year, been every year since 2005 with a load of school friends and it's such a good laugh. The crowd is definitely a lot more intense to bands (get it wrong and you'll get bottled off like 50 Cent / MCR, get it right and you'll get one of the best receptions of your life) but I think that makes for a great rock atmosphere once you get in the swing of things. The best thing about Reading is the camp-sites at night. At Glastonbury the camp-sites are quite quiet and a bit boring - but at Reading large crowds of friendly people stagger around with boom-boxes and booze in their own little party and anyone can join in. By then it's normally all in fancy dress too. Not good if you want a quiet, respectful atmosphere but great if you want the festival vibe to run into the early hours.

DD - your brother is doing the right thing if he wants to stay clean all weekend, but personally I'd rather go dirty (who cares ) and not have any responsibilities. A few of my friends are doing what he does at Reading.

I used to do the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme. One day it absolutely chucked it down the whole day we were out doing a two-day walk. We pretty much walked up a mountain, got lost, and finally had our leader out looking for us. He eventually found us and got us to the camp site. He insisted we camp for the night when every one of us just wanted to go home and have a nice bath. Never had a more depressing night in my life. Had a good cold after that too.

I haven't been camping since, and I probably never will again.

If god had intended us to camp he wouldn't have let us invent indoor plumbing. Or houses, come to that.

My family had a camping holiday in Switzerland and France and Holland once. (Driving round) Worst holiday we've ever had.

I went camping in Emberton once as a kid. It was about seven miles from my house.

I've been to Reading five times in the early/mid 90s and Leeds once in 2001. I'm not good at camping, I miss not being able to style my hair and put makeup on properly etc, but I saw so many good bands that they kind of made up for all the horrors of the campsite, altho I was lucky in that it never rained much when I was there. These days I'm a bit old for all that and if I really wanted to see a lot of bands at one I'd stay in a hotel, which is what I did for Leeds. That has its own problems tho in that so many festival sites (altho not Reading) are miles away from the town centres and so getting out of the site and back to the hotel in the evening is a right pain.

I took my lil' bro to Reading for the first time when he was 13, he loved it so much that as soon as he was old enough to go without me he started going every year, this year he's getting married the weekend before the festival and for their honeymoon he and his fiancee are going to Reading in a hired camper van.
