They're embedding Flash applets in spreadsheets now? Very interesting.

I didn't like it, LadB... I don't like anything that advertises violence. Not good :-(

It's not 'advertising' violence in the real world though, surely? I find it hard to believe that after playing the game anyone would be inclined to go and shoot people for real. It's like the GTA games - a good stress buster!

hmmm... I have my doubts, Tials.. It's just I always think there are a certain amount of people who cannnot seperate computer stuff from reality!! No offence, LadB, but I'm just not that happy with this particular topic.

So you'd like to ban violence on any film, TV show, book and computer game?

I'd certainly like to see a lot cut down, Tial, in the movies & TV shows, yep.

I just refuse to play violence-related computer games, and if I had any kids, I'm sorry, but it's no-go. I'd get them doing something more constructive than sitting on machines all day.

In fact, I was having a discussion about this with a guy at my local library a couple of weeks ago, and he was telling me he refuses to have his kids simply "googling" stuff all the time. He'll bring them to the library, and get them researching properly.

That's going a bit far. I spend a lot of time at work on Google. I find it usually helps me get my job done. In fact, I'd go as far as to say my job would be a lot harder without Google.

I "google" an awful lot as well, but I also think it's important for people to be able to find things from themselves, in libraries, etc.

Certainly knowing how to find books in a library, then knowing how to find what you need in the books is a skill that should not be lost due to the convenience of Google. But both have one thing in common - you need to know how to sift through the nonsense to get to the good stuff. There's just more nonsense on the internet. It's pretty much a skill in itself.

Nonsense. It doesn't advertise violence, it's a mindless way to waste 10 mins. If people need wrapping up in cotton wool that much that they can't seperate the game from reality, then they need putting in an institution.

Yeah, but that's my point though, there are many who do need putting into institutions, unfortunately.
