trying to bring the topic back around...

Anyone in the US know how to get listen again on the iphone? I can access the iplayer for iphone page but it only lists TV shows (which are not accessible outside the UK anyway).

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to be able to listen to moyles on my iphone without having to manually download the stream and convert it to mp3. If it's not possible, it's gotta be coming soon!

anyone able to help?

The iPhone doesn't support rtsp (or mms) so it cannot access the streams. The only way to do it, as the iPhone OS is essentially Darwin (which is Unix based), would be to compile a *nix media player (that has support for rtsp) for the iPhone. I suspect that the easiest one to get to work would be mplayer.

You can't listen again even in the um. You'd need real player which currently isn't available on iphone. Shame as I would too!

I would pay a developer like $100 to come up with RealPlayer for the iPhone, that's like the only thing missing from it. Oh, and because it's essentially supposed to be OS X, a mini version of iLife and iWork wouldn't hurt. :D.

Can they unlock the iPhone 3G yet?

If I DO get it unlocked - what are the pros / cons? I'm happy with my O2 contract as is.

The only pros are that you can choose what sim to put in it therefore decide what contact you are on however as I previously said the free data swings it for me so I've no need to unlock it.

I had 2.0 long before it came out and started downloading Apps like the day before it opened to the public.

The whole structure was rebuilt, so no original Installer applications would work, hence it's not in 2.0 yet as they're rebuilding it. But, somehow someone got it to work without the developer certificate and that's why so many people had it. I know some people that are already trying to take the official Apple Applications apart, this could cause some huge trouble in the developer world.

But yeah, there definitely needs to be a custom RealPlayer that will work on the iPhone. You can get it on Smartphones already (Windows Mobile), and it works decent. The files are really hard to find though, so if you'd like that, I'll help you find the package for your phone. I used to have a Pocket PC which is basically the same thing without the phone options. I think it's pretty weird that there's actually not a lot of development going into those phones when they're becoming increasingly popular.

So, all these months later... I think I am super close to getting Moyles to play on my Iphone (here is the US).

The setup is pretty straight forward - I downloaded the Orb app onto my phone, set up an orb account http://orb.com/ and installed the local Orb client on my PC.

The I set up Internet Radio Favorites on mycast.orb.com (cut/paste the URLs from these boards rtsp://rmv8.bbc.net.uk/radio1/moyles_mon.ra ect) for each day of shows I wanted.

Now when I go into the internet Streams in my Orb App on my phone, I see the shows I set up and can play them. They begin to play flawlessly, not stutter, no buffer.

The only problem is that they play perfectly for a few minutes and then die. I am experimenting to find a solution.

Are there any other stream addresses I could access besides the rtsp's? If anyone has other url's I would really appreciate it!

I figured out what's wrong, unfortunately.

Quote

BBC Radio streams consistently stop after 90 seconds - If you stream BBC Internet radio channels, you may experience a stream interruption after 90 seconds. This is because RealPlayer and Media Player Classic (MPC) send out packets to detect bandwidth at regular intervals, causing the server to drop the stream after 90 seconds, without notifying the client. There is no workaround to circumvent that at this time.

We've included a tutorial showing you how to listen to the audio streams on your iPhone or iPod Touch using the free application FStream, created by Avérous Julien-Pierre.
