A survey of 100,000 people have declared the following to be the 10 best pop songs of all time

1 Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
2 Village People - YMCA
3 Bryan Adams - (Everything I Do) I Do It For You
4 Robbie Williams - Angels
5 UB40 - Red Red Wine
6 John Lennon - Imagine
7 Guns N' Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine
8 Michael Jackson - Billie Jean
9 Abba - Dancing Queen
10 Kylie Minogue - Can't Get You Out of My Head

WHO THE * ARE THESE CLOTH EARED IDIOTS AND WHY ARE THEY ALLOWED AN OPINION? There are three songs on that list that don't inspire murderous rage in me (a bag of maltesers to the first one who can guess which ones).

Maltesers please!

ooh, 1 out of 3 :D

TIAL wrote:Hmm, there are quite a few terrible songs in there - but at least it's 'pop' songs only. A list of pop songs is never going to give that much quality.

See you're wrong there, a good pop song is just as valid as a good indie song, a good rock song or whatever.

I know - there are plenty of really good pop songs but when people are polled on that matter they're always going to pick the 'cheesy' ones that everyone knows rather than the ones that are actually good. (EG - YMCA)

KILL THE UNBELIEVER! HERETIC.

I luff Kylie.

But "Can't get you out of my head" is ace, overplayed but still ace. *Realises he's given away one of the three songs he likes*

I don't see the fascination with Kylie. Bit of a BOBFOC and her songs aren't great.

*Bruvva's patented wrong-o-meter explodes*

pfft, perfectly good pop songs in her pomp. Gone off the boil a bit recently, admittedly but this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEjRW7skUZM is fab.

Buggerbuggerbugger - I meant 7

7 is not a pop song.

8 however is one of the best pop songs ever written, I agree.

The rest I don't.

Touché young timp.

Ooh look, music snobbery. Of course it * is : "Pop songs are generally marked by a consistent and noticeable rhythmic element, a mainstream style and traditional structure. The most common variant is strophic in form and focuses on melodies, catchy hooks and the appeal of the verse-chorus-verse arrangement, with the chorus sharply contrasting the verse melodically, rhythmically and harmonically"

Ah bugger, sorry Zoot. You're right there.

My all time favourite Kylie song. Plus the greatest video. I actually tried watching Barbarella at the weekend and I was less that impressed. Damn me for looking for a story line!

However I want some Malteasers so 1,7 and 10?
Are we allowed more than 1 guess?

KYLIE IS NOT CRAP.

And song number one is the most overblown, preposterous, pretentious toss ever released by anyone, it's * dreadful.
#351148
5, 8 and 10 would be my guess.

I think if I were choosing:

  1. Pulp - Something Changed
  2. ELO - The Way Life's Meant to Be
  3. Mike + The Mechanics - The Living Years
  4. Human League - Together in Electric Dreams
  5. Beyoncé - Crazy in Love
  6. Blondie - Atomic
  7. Steve Harley and * Rebel - Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me)
  8. B52s - Love Shack
  9. Babylon Zoo - Spaceman (don't laugh, I just like it)
  10. Britney - Baby One More Time (I'm no Britney fan by any stretch, but this is a great pop record)

I was going to guess 6, 7 and 10 but I've been beaten to it.

I absolutely love this song. The Feeling covered it when I saw them live earlier this year and the crowd went wild. Technically I think it's Phil Oakey and Giorgio Moroder though.

I saw the Feeling cover it as well at the Birmingham Academy. Seen them twice now, the first time they covered Video Killed the Radio Star.

Cracking live band.
