I saw Katie Melua live a couple of years ago and she actually did a cover of Spaceman by babylon zoo. It was good too.

Ok, Pop records - no order

Billy Jean - Michael Jackson
Atomic - Blondie
Birdhouse in your Soul - They might be giants
Take on me - A Ha
Going gets tough - Billy Ocean
Ticket to Ride - Beatles
Easy - Lional Richie
Don't stop me now - Queen
Don't speak - No Doubt
Stayin Alive - Bee-Gees

Bugger, I forgot Birdhouse in Your Soul and I also omitted The Beatles.

Here's a few that spring to mind:

NERD - She Wants to Move
Phil Collins - Sussudio
Huey Lewis & The News - Hip to be Square
(the above 2 may have something to do with my love of American Psycho)
Michael Jackson - Don't Stop 'Till you Get Enough (my favourite of his)
The Beatles - Help
Amerie - 1 Thing
Amy Winehouse - Rehab
Cornershop - Brimful of Asha
Dee Lite - Groove is in the Heart
The Clash - Rock the Casbah
Jamiroquai - Canned Heat

Topher wrote:I saw the Feeling cover it as well at the Birmingham Academy. Seen them twice now, the first time they covered Video Killed the Radio Star.

Cracking live band.

They are indeed. They seem to pick great covers too - they did You're So Vain for the Radio 1 Established CD.

A few of my favourite pop songs would be:
ABC - The Look of Love
Outkast - Hey Ya!
Climie Fisher - This Is Me
Depeche Mode - Just Can't Get Enough
Foundations - Build Me Up Buttercup.

There's loads more - but that's just off the top of my head.

How do you people always manage to do this? Someone says "whats your favourite 10 pop songs" and there you are, with a list! I couldn't possibly do that, how could I make a list of ten out of all the thousands of pop songs I have heard? And don't say "if they spring into your head they are your favourites" - its not true, "memorable" isn't the same as "excellent". I would have to do loads of research before I could answer that question!

Mine definitely wasn't in any way final - I just had a skip through my media player and saw what came up. I agree that it would indeed take ages to get a final list together!

I think in my case it does imply a certain music geekiness and listmania. Making lists of this sort of stuff helps train journeys and long car drives pass quickly. I've also made a lot of compilation cds in my time and the few songs I listed above were ones that always sound great on said compilations.

Mine was off the top of my head, I've already included a couple of Zoot's and now I wish to include Build Me Up Buttercup, as mentioned by CassieJackson, because it's simply brilliant.

Seconded! Although even after a lot of research I doubt I could narrow it to anywhere near ten!

Cat and Charlalalala are right about Kylie although I don't mind some of her songs.

Zooty is on the button about number 7.

I think that's all I have to say at the moment except that 100,000 people isn't really that many to do a poll of this sort.
