It's a Scottish thing. The English equivalent would be 'and your mum', but we tend to grow out of that before we leave school.

"and your mum" is certainly not the same as "Yer Maw."


It's all to do with the timing and delivery. "and your mum" simply couldnt work. The Scotchlanders will back me up here.

"Yer maw" has a kick to it that "and your mum" doesn't. Some what similar to "* off" and "Go Away!". Roughly speaking they mean the same thing, but one is far more powerful than the other.
