I'm slightly confused with this little battle between Russia and Georgia.

I understand why its happened, but what I dont get is why Russia are getting so much grief.

As I understand it, Georgia invaded a town which is mainly full of people holding Russian passports, so Russia sent loads of tanks to deffend these people.

Georgia attacked the Russians, so Russia kicked off and started bombing parts of Georgia to stop them attacking them.

Now everyone is having a go at the Russians and sticking up for Georgia, but they brought it on themselves!

Thats like the little geeky kid attacking the school bully and not expecting a wedgie!

Anyway, I think it has re-ignited the cold war!

America are moaning at the Russians(its like the 80s again)

DevilsDuck should be made President of the United States immediately. Showing a clear understanding of the situation that they don't over the pond. Or in this country for that matter, but we just follow what they do.

You could also throw in that the "leader" of Georgia is more or less a dictator. Yes, he was elected. But so was Saddam. That didn't seem to stop Iraq getting invaded to remove him.

Right enough, Beadle Poke could be right. Comparing him with Saddam was probably wrong. He's more of a Milosevic. The scenario is somewhat similar, right down to the idea of a world super power deciding that a region gets to be an independent nation. Except Russia got in there before anything nasty happened to the people there. NATO were a bit late getting into Kosovo.

Can't believe the west have the cheek to moan about Russia recognising independent states of someone else's country when it was only a few months ago they were recognising Kosovo. Albanians living in Serbia, Russians living in Georgia... same thing, isn't it?
