You just did - not so laid back now eh?

I don't actually care how much you earn and I don't think that is relevant to this discussion. Your spelling mistakes are not "occasional" they splatter this forum like a bad acne. They're also not "mistakes" they are blatant and obvious indications that you cannot spell! Now if you can't spell can I suggest you download Firefox which has a spell check built into it rather than you looking like a complete idiot.

It is relevant to this discussion as you implied my lack of eduction was a problem and its not to me.

maybe it is lazy but it doesnt bother me. I'm very sorry it winds you up

It is a problem as far as your literacy is concerned. I don't care how high up the food chain you are, if you can't spell or use correct grammar then you have no respect from me as these things are easy to learn and improve. It doesn't "wind me up" it astounds and saddens me and I will do all I can (admittedly not much) to try and keep grammar and correct spelling on the straight and narrow.

I can read and I can write, but I dont proof read every post I make

I agree that literacy is important, but I honestly think in this kind of environment it makes very little difference if the occasional word is incorrect or that I didnt put an ' in didn't

I swear I wasn't trying to be a twat when I said about the earning malarky, but looking back at it it looks really twatty. I was just trying to make the point that spelling or lack of hasn't held me back

That was a much better attempt. It does matter DD. The minute we say it doesn't then confusion will reign and literacy may as well go out of the window along with decency, common sense and many other things that seem to be deserting us. Better to protect it and be proud of the fact we actually do care about it.

A 'D' is still technically a pass.. just not a very good one. However, it is clear, I have improved greatly since then and you have gone downhill. Either that or I'm going to use the 'exams are getting easier' cliché.

I do agree that is is less important on (for example) an online forum than (for example) a CV, but your posts are easier to read if they are properly constructed according to the rules of the English language. It's a courtesy.

But he can - I think all he is saying is that he doesn't see the need to correct every typo he makes in an informal medium.

Most of the "bad spelling and grammar" on this forum is really just uncorrected typos - and there's a difference between a typo and a mistake born of ignorance.

There are some twerps of course, but there always will be.

The word 'twerp' is greatly underused.

I agree with that. But it is a question of what is actually being said, someone typing drivel with bad spelling and grammar is drivel, someone trying as hard as they can and making mistakes, but putting a valid point across I think we should be able to live with.

From my perspective I think Ducky Wucky is a good contributor to the site.

Can I ask where Viv is?

Today I read a log of issues at work. Among the mistakes were 'computer through me out' and 'proberley'. I am left wondering how and why on earth the lady in question was employed.

Today I cut up a log and put it on the fire, to generate heat to dry the washing, which in time will need ironing, and putting away.

I find that as a medium to read logs are best burnt though.

* me, I am hilarious aren't I ? No, No, I didn't think so, sorry.

One of the little gals I used to work with had sent an inter-office email speculating about one of our handsome co-workers and his choice of beach apparel for the party we were all going to. In it she put, "I'm waiting with baited breathe for him to bear all!!!" After my eye finished twitching, I responded that some mouthwash, a dictionary and perhaps a really big stick should clear that up. She didn't understand. Bless.

Just you wait until I go on my Internet course. You should notice a BIG difference, once I understand the Internet more.

Viv, that's slightly scary.

I don't understand how bad spelling is such an issue in this age of spell check everywhere. It's shocking how many applicants we've had for a position at work with glaring typos/grammatical errors on their resumes. They can't spell library but they want to work in one?

It's not such a recent phenomenon either. My mum was a librarian (in an ordinary lending library) for most of her life, and I remember when I was a kid she used to say she would get graduate trainees sent to her who had to have the alphabet written down on a piece of paper when they were shelving the fiction.

Thats similar to what happened to my girlfriend, she was training up her replacement when she went on maternity leave and her replacement didnt understand the filing system.

It was A-Z.....

Not only that, but she is a legal secretary, so its not like they hired any old idiot either(well they hired my girlfriend :? )

Are you taking a general internet based course? I thought it was a Dreamweaver course.

oh my god, please say it isn't, otherwise I feel very sorry for the person teaching Viv.

I went through the tutorials on Dreamweaver and picked it up that way
