3. Oxford, I guess.

Why?

Oxford : I was there in 2003, in Abingdon. I found the people very cold and unwelcoming. Also, the lady at the b&b where I was staying almost wouldn't take my cash, because she said I had "foreign currency" with me. I had Scottish pounds notes. D'uh. It was all just awful. I had expected it to be considerably more old-fashioned and it was quite modern. I enjoyed my tour of all the University buildings, however, which was done in a force-10 gale !!

You clearly haven't been since the 70s, and 80s when the trees hadn't grown then.

I was there 3 months ago, the trees don't disguise the concrete

I drove round and round the maze for ages trying to find the car park I had used the previous day, gave up and parked in a different car park only to find it impossible to find my car when I left for the day.

I don't find it in the least bit confusing. I find silly one-way systems confusing. It depends what you've grown up with.

It is completely bizzare without any distinguishing features to show you where you are at least with one way systems you can keep going round so you end up where you started and try again

How many people did you ask for help?

At least 15 in the space of half an hour - I told them what shops I had come past on my way in and they all sent me in the wrong direction. I also worked there for 3 months covering a manager and found the majority of the shoppers to be rude.

It is surprising the number of people who don't realise that Scottish notes are legal tender.

It is [small]indeed[/small], considering we all live in the U.K.

Shit, those bloody tags didn't work.

There are stores that won't accept them in Peterborough now. Happily mine is not one of them. Stupid ignorance - which should also go into room 101

That's because a 'small' tag doesn't exist on this board. Why would you want to make the word 'indeed' smaller, anyway?

Also for room 101: people who talk in libraries. I can come in here and be quiet, WHY CAN'T YOU?

Eh... technically Scottish notes aren't legal tender in England, only the Bank of England ones are. What makes it funnier, is that none of it is technically legal in Scotland - Scottish, English or anything else!

I think I heard that on QI once. It did make me laugh. It's just accepted that its all legal throughout the UK. Well, apart from those picky southerners.

1) Topher
2) Lazy people who lay in bed all morning
3) People who are happy to spend my tax but don't want to pay it themselves

As a Southerner, I would not have (nor have had any reason to) know that Scottish notes were accepted in England if it weren't for these boards. I can see why people wouldn't accept them as they look different to the English ones (and personally I haven't ever seen one in real life). I know for people in Scotland it may be very obvious but you have to see why see some initial suspicion.

Also - Abingdon is a bit of a dump, but Oxford itself is lovely.

My last post makes no sense, it should read "you have to see why it would be met with some initial suspicion."

We've done Room 101 at work before and the things I put in were:

1. Hayfever
2. Eating meat
3. Mushrooms
4. Robbie Williams

The fifth one I put in at the time was period pains, but that was before my op and I hardly suffer from them at all anymore, so now I think I'd go for bad mannered people.

Oooh! I like Nicola's first 3. I'd never agree with putting Robbie in there, though!

I'd like to add on to her list with:
(4) Spiders
(5) Ticks
(6) *
(7) Mold (it creeps me out)
(8) Country Music
(9) Bleu Cheese
(10)Boston Red Sox

It's a bit silly going on to develop a petition.
