last night on BBC 3 was a programme entitled, "Most Annoying Couples We Love To Hate".

It was basically looking at profiles of celebs. in the media spotlight: David/Victoria Beckham, Jordan/Peter Andre, etc.

Which couple do you love to hate, and, if you like, why?

I saw some of this, twas a bit rubbish to be honest. I don't hate any celebrities, just the idea in general I think. The concept of being a celebriy is what annoys me.

The concept annoys me too. The programme could have been a lot better. Too much like a chart countdown.

My pet hates are : Paul Daniels/Debbie McGee. Aaaaaahhhh

Why?

The concept of being a celeb: well, pretty much because they don't do a lot.

katie/holmes - Tom Cruise are another annoying pair. Apparently, Katie's mum wants her to get away from the Cruise.

Some do do a lot though and some are, in fact, famous for a valid reason, rather than because they were on a shit reality TV show.

I don't mind the fact that there are famous people, if its for a valid reason then I do like it. I just don't like how the media constantly follows celebrities and updates us on things that we could live quite happily without knowing.

Yeah, but most have had their time, haven't they, and just go on shows to recapture that "moment in time" when people once loved them.

The answer is quite simple... don't buy trashy magazines or tabloid newspapers. Or if you insist on buying the tabloids, skip past the (large) celebrity bits.

That's not gonna help. There are too many people out there who will continue to buy this crap no matter what, that's the problem.

Well if you're not reading the articles, you don't have to care what other people are buying, do you?

That's not my point. My point is that millions of people do read these mags./newspapers, and until millions (literally) stop, this whole celeb. culture thing is not gonna go away at all! I've been blogging about it on www.aled.info/forum this morning, because it irritates me so much.

I know what your point is and my point is that you can ignore it at least in part by avoiding publications that perpetuate such a culture.

Well, that would involve pretty much 3/4 of the magazine / newspaper section at my local TESCO.

Well, that gives you a quarter of their magazines and newspapers to choose from, doesn't it.

Great (rolls eyes)! I walk into TESCO, and even from the front doors, I am greeted with a large number of celebs in my face (impossible not to notice - they keep the mags near the door), before I've even begun shopping.

You don't have to go up to it though... you seem to be getting upset over something that is very easy to avoid. OK, you see some faces on a magazine rack for a couple of seconds while you walk past it, so what?

So what you're saying is you don't want to know but you can't help buying them when you see them?

I buy them, I am a self confessed celeb junky reader. I'm not arsed about Chanelle, Danielle Lloyd, Nikki, Jodie Marsh (but I do like reading about the tranny called Jodie Harsh) or all of the pointless people, but they are in a magazine with the more important celebs so you just have to deal with it.
If people don't remember Katie Price started out very pointless and a media attention seeker and she turned into something significant and worked hard.

No, what I am saying is that they are placed near the door so that you can't help but see all this trash.

I don't like the new breed of reality 'celebrities' either, but having absolutely no idea who most of them are, I have no problem walking past racks of magazines. Saying that, though, if I did know some of the faces on the magazines, I don't think it would distress me too much.

That doesn't mean you have to read it though, Viv.

I don't like "celebrity culture" either, and have never had any problem avoiding it in the main. The most exposure I tend to get is when they talk about BB or X Factor on the radio - but I have to confess thats usually my cue to switch off for a while. Its surprisingly easy, I find.

Jordan and Peter, but then, they are just annoying people regardless of whether they're together or not.

Regarding celebrity culture, I buy those magazines on occasion, but less so recently. I like the beauty and fashion sections, but they are diminishing in favour of articles about people from Big Brother that I've never heard of, so it's a bit pointless me buying them really.

The Hamiltons are a very annoying couple. Also Richard and Judy. I have also heard recently about this entity known as "Brangelina" - i didn't like that much.
