Tabletop role playing again - an example of this is Dungeons and dragons. I think it's an american thing, but it's where you play a character and are presented with situations, where you use dice to decide the outcome. I've never actually done it but I'd like to.

Decisions aren't determined by dice rolling, only the outcome of decisions and actions. TTRPGs are usually quite open-ended, allowing for numerous different routes and events, meaning that how you play your character will ultimately determine the outcome of a game.

Well yea, you choose, for instance, to use a particular weapon or spell and use the dice to determine how successful you are using them.

I do get that - it just sounds a little dull for something that's meant to be a game.

There's usually a quite substantial story that goes along with the game - a story that can take weeks or months to play through. Your characters grow in ability and stats as the game progresses allowing you to fight tougher enemies and move forward in the story.
