I don't see what difference it makes. What their sexuality is off air is no business of anyone. On air, they can say what they want if it entertains the nation. The way Scott was fawning over Katie Perry earlier in the week was no different to just about any female guest Chris gets in. But I no more think Scott is ready to run off with Katie than I do Chris to leave Sophie at the merest hint of an offer from a guest.

Just cos he doesn't come across as a camp whoofter doesn't mean he is pretending to be straight.

If there is one thing I would defend Mills on, it is that he is one of the few gay celebrities that manages to get on with his life and job without making it all about what sorta person he wants to ravish in the bedroom. Frankly, it is a breath of fresh air that there is someone out there in the spotlight proving that not all gay folk have to be queens.

Vivienne wrote:I don't mind whether the guy is gay or not, but unfortunately, there are many clowns out there who will do so (even in this day and age). That's why I personally think he is being cautious.

But he printed a full page article in a newspaper about it. That's hardly subtle!

Couldn't agree more.

Get a Room you two ! It's so obvious that as two gayers you are like so in love with each other.

Anyway,

1. It is not a secret he is gay
2. He is an entertainer, and a presenter, and with a mixed audience needs to be as popular as possible to keep his job.
3. Who gives a shit what he does in his spare time, as long as he is good, let it be.
4. If you think that he is hiding it, you are a dense, Sun reading, ill-educated, Plumber called Barry, with a Astra Tdi in Red, an end of terrace Wimpey home, you call it semi-detached, a Transit Van[white], a wife called Tina, who likes Bingo, you drink bitter and roll your own fags, shop at Matallan, have Tattoos and are in a Lottery syndicate.

Don't forget the fact that they have 2 children called Tiffany (shortened to Tiff) and Daniel (Shortened to Dan. Dan has his ears pierced by the way.)) They also have a pit bull terrier called Mason.

the other morning a hairdreser sent in a text saying she thinks she saw scott with his wife and kids. it was obviously mistaken identity which scott admitted to but in his response he leaves little lying hints that he's straight. the crew smirk knowing the truth about scott but he fails to be honest.

i don't know why he just doesn't admit he's gay and then get on with his job. i'm sure he would be a lot happier once he's more open.

it's widely known within the bbc and all you have to do is google '"scott mills" +gay' to find out for yourself.

chris has even mentioned it but he said it cryptically.

apart from that i think he's alright but i don't enjoy his show much and chappers is very weak comedically, but becky is so so much better than that awful laura and her ridiculous and embarrassing gushing over celeb guests.

No.

His sexuality has nothing to do with him being a Radio 1 DJ. Anyway, him being gay is no secret

So, in other words, you! :D (says Viv).

I prefer the more traditional style of quoting. (says foot-loose)

One of my first posts here was actually something about Mills and his 'straight-acting-ness' (not a word). I got throroughly derided for it and told not to be offended on behalf of others. I pointed out that I was kinda offended for myself as I'm bi, but that wasn't actually my point really.

I actually agree with the OP. It's not about Mills having a 'big red light on' to proclaim his sexuality or about being camp or not. It's not about whether it makes a difference whether he's gay - it clearly doesn't affect his presenting abilities. I work in theatre and most of my male friends are gay, so I'm hardly likely to be bothered by it! It's the way he feels the need to imply and suggest he's straight. Admittedly I haven't listened to him in a while so he may have changed, but the last time I did listen it drove me crazy. I couldn't understand why he felt the need to talk about fancying women and which girl he might marry - all I could think was that he was ashamed of his sexuality and trying to hide it. If that makes me an ill educated Sun-reading plumber in a Transit van then so be it, I'm just being honest about how it comes across to me. And I don't believe Aled does the same thing.

I wish I could address all the points in all the posts here but there are just too many!

As much as I love a good debate, and could possibly kill this thread; I promise to do it humanely, pop it it a shoebox, bury it it the back garden whilst saying the 'Gay'Lord's prayer.;)

Shall we just summarise, then draw a line underneath? The general consensus seems to be that noone gives a rat's backside about the private life of DJs, we are all open minded individuals with a valid opinion. Some people object to the fact that gay people in the public eye don't always necessarily choose to disguise themselves as a row of tents and Scott works for radio 1 as does Moyles. Certain people love Moyles, some love Scott. I'm very fond of them both.

It would irritate me as well if I heard him actively promote him being straight, in fact, it would go into the long list of reasons I already dislike him, but I have never heard him say anything that makes me think he is trying to sway people towards thinking he's straight. That doesn't, of course mean he hasn't said it mind you.

Aled certainly doesn't do the same thing. He frequently plays towards various stereotypes associate with being a camper.

I think perhaps, and I'm not trying to offend anyone by saying this, it may be easier, and less risky to make good/humorous radio to play up to the bigger, hetereosexual audience, than the smaller gay audience. He has to fill 3 hours airtime to fill everyday. Sexuality can only be a portion of that before people start getting bored of that humour, and so the essence of his show that focuses on his exploits (Straight or Gay) is probably carefully chosen not to offend the (What I call) the 'ignorant minority'(although only a minority, it probably gets boring, we've seen the reaction Aled gets and how it sometimes affects him) So I think if he wished to play down the fact about his sexuality then it's probably for a very good reason and we should not judge him on it.I liken it to my situation (albeit, I'm not as exposed as Scott!) I'm a practising Christian and I'm not ashamed of that in any way, in fact, I love it, but that doesn't mean I consistently beat my friends, colleagues, customers etc over their head with my Bible! Sometimes I'm obviously a christian but not always, people can read into my actions whatever they want but the people who are close to me, know what I am, thats the people who matter! :)

That is a good post - diplomatic and puts a valid point across, well done.

I don't 100% agree with it, but that's the way the world works.
