The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Firstly I'm not a white stripes fan but Chris this morning trying to belittle that band and state they are overrated was ridiculous, ordinarily it would be fine but unfortunately Moyles music tastes are less than stellar, The Feeling? Scouting For girls?, and the irony of ironies The ting tings.

The ting tings who have a drummer and vocalist and have songs like 'thats not my name', nah nothing like the white stripes :o

He forgets to list other white stripes songs like the Grammy Award winning song ' Icky Thump' with it's meaningful and political overtones, but why would he know this? because he's too busy listening to meaningless rubbish.

I don't know though, maybe his collection features a discography of Bob Dylan, and this is all a front.

Fine you dont like the white stripes but dont try and justify your tastes because you will lose.

.....What? Lose what? I don't like them and I'll justify it by saying that I don't enjoy their music. What have I lost?

I like the White Stripes and yes, Chris' dislike of repetitive lyrics do seem a bit strange considering what he does like - but I see what he means about the drums sounding similar on many of the songs (or certainly singles).

The Raconteurs are much better, in my opinion.

I'm guessing what the OP meant was that if Chris tries to justify his dislike of the Stripes by pitting them against some of the bands he does profess to like (Scouting for Girls being a prime example), then he would lose the argument cos the bands he likes are equally guilty of the same crimes, if not more so. But it was phrased in a bit of a haphazard way, and also that line of thinking doesn't really work with something like musical taste cos it's so subjective.

I don't like the White stripes either. There's no need to justify why you like/dislike a band...if you don't, you don't. Chris is just lucky enough to have the platform to air those views.

There was a year 10 rock band at my daughter's school last year. They were pretty good, but when they played something and got to a tricky bit, they would just slow down ever so slightly and the percussion would just go slightly out of time and then when there was a difficult guitar part they would just simplify it a tiny bit and it would be just perceptibly too slow so they could play it better. And they only had the school's amps and equipment so they always sounded just a bit tinny, with the balance slightly off between the drums and the guitars. They were really good considering - but you know how a band made out of enthusiastic 15 year olds sounds. Just like The White Stripes.

I like the White Stripes, but I agree that he certainly shouldn't feel the need to justify why he doesn't like them; as nicola_red says, music taste is entirely subjective.

Moyles has admitted in the past (possibly even in his first book) that his music taste is far from 'cool'.

Does it count as losing your job if you took voluntary redundancy?

Voluntary redundancy is just another phrase for "get out before you're ejected", is it not though?

Well I wish they'd realised that - then I wouldn't have had to threaten to take them to court of they didn't let me go.

Bob Dylan is a load of overrated Shite. Subterranean Homesick Blues was his only good song and the White Stripes only good song was Seven Nation Army.

I bloody well CAN justify my tastes too.

Bob Dylan can lick my sweaty crack. Bunch of tree hugging, hippy, crap!

I'm going to put this down to the good influence of Brendan Benson - have you heard his solo stuff? I love it.

Personally I don't mind the White Stripes. Chris's rant about them this morning made me laugh.

I personally cant stand the white stripe, chris's parody was very funny, but regardless, each to their own opinion. He has said things I find inappropriate, i.e. casual swearing, I have a four year old daughter who picks up in everyting, arse is not an appropriate word for early ears.

...... thanks for reading!

I hope thats a joke.

If it isn't I'll buy you a copy on blood on the tracks.

He is one of if not the most important singer songwriters of all time, lyrically moving, passionate, political.

But I guess if you like The Feeling you wont really understand.

I don't like the Feeling and I think Bob Dylan is shit and highly overrated. I've just never got him.

When it comes to music tastes, I always respect the fact that people like bands that I might not; that's their taste - but I really hate it when people say "ohhh... you're wrong, you're wrong <insert artist here> is amazing! They're influential, they're this, they're that." so? What makes them so great just because a vast amount of people like them? It just shows that a lot of people like them. Simple.
