Now, I know there's a discussion about the White Stripes going on in General - so feel free to merge if you deem it appropriate.

What do you think of the new Bond theme, which was aired by Jo Whiley this morning?
There's an MP3 here.

Personally, I like the instrumental - and normally would probably like the song as a whole if it were not a Bond theme. However, I think the American voices take it away its 'Britishness' and makes it seem like any other Holywood action film (which I know it essentially is, really).

Am I alone in thinking that Amy Winehouse should have done it?

I thought the film was called "Quantum of Solace"? What's this "another way to die" pish all about?

I want a song with the same name as the film, and I don't care how hard it is to make it rhyme.

What kind of a stupid name is "Quantum of Solace" anyway. Load of nonsense. As long as Daniel Craig gets his kit off, who cares?

I think it's taken from a bond story that Ian Fleming wrote, although I don't think the film is based on that story line. And whither or not Daniel Craig gets his kit off is only important as its traditional that Bond gets to shag various women. There are some very important rules when it comes to Bond, and this film seems to be breaking them left right and centre... and i've not even seen it yet!

I've never seen a James Bond film all the way through.. I might go and watch this one if I can be bothered.

I wouldn't imagine it's one of those things where you have to have seen the last one for the current one to make sense though, is it?

For all the sentimental stuff about how Sean Connery was brilliant, those early Bond films were pretty rubbish really. The much newer ones are far better.

Agreed. I don't usually go for blond men but for him I'd make an exception!

He was my favourite too.

Mine, too. Bond's supposed to be tall, dark and handsome. I was irritated with the idea of a new blond Bond. What's next? They'll make him American? Come on! Brosnan's Bond is just more elegant and debonair than Daniel Craig's. That said, Craig has a fabulous body and I must admit, the moment that trailer showed him in his swimming trunks, my firm stance against blond Bonds rapidly deteriorated.

Surely, though, considering (and I may be wrong here, but this was my impression) James Bond is supposed to be the quintessential Englishman, he has been played by a Scotsman, an Australian and an Irishman... and again, I may be wrong, but I don't believe they attempted to change their accents either? Connery didn't anyway.

Well, my comment was based on my disbelief over their switch from a dark Bond to a blond one. It left me wondering what would be next. It never bothered me that Brosnan was Irish or that Connery was Scottish. I couldn't watch a Bond movie if they put an American man in as 007. Not even if he could fake the accent really, really well and looked fit in his swimming trunks.

Oh TIAL, how could you? I know you only posted that for comic effect - please tell me you aren't serious!

Apparently - Ian Fleming used to say that he based the character of James Bond loosely on the British actor David Niven, both of them worked in top secret intelligence type stuff in the second world war and got to know each other pretty well. Unfortunately by the time they got around to filming the Bond movies seriously although Fleming was keen to have Niven cast, he acknowledged that he was by then too old. And nobody counts Casino Royale.

Anyway - David Niven wasn't dark.

I've never fancied any of the Bonds - I think it's just not a look I go for. I think the new theme tune is awful too! Whoever thought of getting Jack White involved needs a slap.

It's a joke, I love how visibly angry people get any time I say that.
I've never really seen many James Bond films - only a few when I was young. Maybe I should see more.

Hmmm

I think Pierce Brosnan was the pretty good as was Sean Connery. Didnt like that many of Roger Moores Bond movies and hated George Lazenby for getting Bond married!

As for Daniel Craig he seems an ok Bond, but these new Bond films are meant to be a different take on the Bong genre, much like the new Batman films.

Still love Goldeneye the most and think it was Brosnans best Bond film and cant beat Dr. No with Odd Job, legendary henchman

Surely the storyline is not the fault of the actor.

Brosnan is my favourite, but more Ithink because the films he made were so well done. The early Connery/Moore ones were rubbish films in comparison, and even Connery can't disguise that. I liked the Timothy Dalton films, but he wasn't quite right for Bond I thought. Brosnan WAS Bond. Daniel Craig is a fine actor but I don't quite get him as Bond yet. Pretty though.
