I love newsbeat, it's like newsround but on the radio and no John Craven.

I don't really want anything more from newsbeat, it does what it says on the tin, nice and brief. For more in depth news I'll watch News 24 or read it on line. My only criticism would be the same broadcast is played far too many times. I've driven 300 miles + today, and if I hear the OJ simpson story again I'll go mad!!

YEA!!!!! that's very awesome...truth be told, i discovered the show while flipping around my sirius during a commercial on howard - hehe, you're one up on him in that i don't hear any commercials during the moyles show!!

i live in oxnard (the most unfortunate name for any city that i can think of!)...it's on the central coast....i was excited to hear the show in LA a few weeks back but bummed out there were no appearances i could have visited!

That's exactly what's bad about it... it's patronising as hell. I don't want in-depth news if I'm listening to Radio 1 either, but Newsbeat is the most patronising broadcast material that's not aimed at children in my opinion.

But it is aimed at the sort of shallow minded people who don't really give a toss about the news but still like to know what's going on in the world in case it's interesting. I include myself amongst the shallow minded listeners. I want news to be quick and give me all the background details on the assumption that I have Jo idea what they are on about as I probably don't.

Funny really when on the today show a few weeks back they were discussing Chris, and his encouragement of people to get drunk.

I agree with both of you really, newsbeat is great for news, if it is something that interests you, you do have the option to read more about it in other forms of media. Having radio 4 on to wake up too ( a throw back to when Scott was on it the morning) and Chris on in the kitchen I hear most days the news stories, and they are identical most days, Radio 4 simply interview a couple of three no marks and get them to disagree about something, then have a Rabbi or a monk tell you a great story about being nice and not greedy and how abusing children is wrong, then they have almost word for word the same news that Doms reading but read in an awfully posh "frothy bevvy" accent.

We have a choice, news is news, dumbing down or not, there simply is not enough decent stuff to go round to get all morally high ground about it, even if is your birthday, and you're only posting on here to avoid unpacking.*insert inane smiley face to indicate a try at humor, especially when you have a reputation for being obscure with the meaning of your posts.*

Cheers for the welcome folks. After the pie discussion yesterday I was really hoping that the missus had done pie for my tea when I got home from work but was disappointed to find that she'd gone out with the kids (no tea in the oven) and I had to tidy the house. When she came home, she did me a few cheeseburgers though so all was not lost eh!

That's not an excuse, it just means she'll be slower! I often find the application of a metal rod attached to a car battery ususally does the trick at getting them to speed up!

Teach em for not having my dinner on the table when I get in.
