The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

I noticed today Radio 1 seem to be using a new voiceover. According to some of the other forums it's Holly who did the Big Weekend stuff this year.

She sounds a bit out of place on Newsbeat, but she isn't bad by any means.

Unofficial Mills has a couple of clips.

I thought this would be about the fact they seem to be using Peter Dickson more these days. Or at least someone who sounds like him. Dunno if it's just Scott's show or what. Not heard Holly that much so can't comment on it. Can't be worse than Lip from Shameless though.

Probably a BBC employee who pretended to be 'Holly from Maidstone' during the Big Weekend thing.

Listening back to some of the interviews the Moyles Show did...when they used to play listeners questions to the celebs...I'm sure the same voices kept coming up :P

The BBC never lie though! Of course they don't! :D

Edit: Just checked out the Unofficial Mills thread about it...they have the same theory...that it's a vocieover artist who used to masquerade as 'Holly from Maidstone' during the Big Weekend.

Also, it was funny hearing Moyles ask that caller on Carpark Catchphrase if she knew Holly from Maidstone....then replying with 'Unfortunately we all do now' :P

What, could she not actually be Holly from Maidstone who proved to be so popular and good at voiceovers that she got a break from the one big weekend and is now doing voiceovers professionally?

Is it beyond the realms of possibility that Holly from Maidstone could have been a drama student or an aspiring actress who used her unexpected exposure at One Big Weekend (which she attended with her friends having been allocated the tickets via the proper channels) to launch a whole new career?

You have a strange definition of rabid. And it wasn't so much defending the BBC as pointing out the flimsiness of the initial implied criticism. I'm sure the BBC can look after itself.

That being said, I still don't actually know who this person is - and from the sound of it, I don't want to.

Obviously we're all BBC employees pretending to be regular listeners, what did you expect us to do, slag them off?

I actually quite like the BBC. Especially when I look at the alternatives.

I've always said that if I were to live abroad, one of the big things I'd miss would be the BBC.

Geoff Lloyd is good on Absolute (Virgin) and he's now on drive time so I often have a difficult choice of listening. His female sidekick (Annabell) is not patronizingly annoying either. I find him and the show very funny. It's very similar to his late night show.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if the Been tried to pinch him although I think his tastes may be a bit too old for Radio1. If 2 took him though......

You certainly notice the lack of a BBC when you're abroad. Mainly during the many, many adverts.

The BBC is one of the biggest things to be proud of in this country, in my opinion. As pointed out before, it does output some shit.. but when it gets it right, it gets it very, very right.
