I'm thinking about getting my boys a Wii with Wii sports for their birthday. What exactly do I need to get? I am very confused. Will I need an additional controller so they can play together or is it a "taking in turns" thing? Do I need to get the stand for the console? Help & guidance from those in the know please. Thanks

I think you can attatch up to four controllers but you only get one in the box. If you add more on, you can get the multiplayer on the go.

To be honest, BeadlePokes answer was pretty much bob on - either have a look on the net or go into Game and ask someone who wants you to buy from them.

Attach.

Hmm, I looked online but it just confuses me, I'm easily confused. So if they want to play multi player then they need two controllers? It's not just a "you take your go and I'll take mine" kind of thing then?

You are a woman. Being confused comes naturally to you. Especially when it involves technology.

Don't feel bad about it - you can iron, we can't. It's the way of the world!

You might be able to play it multiplayer turn about, but its more fun playing against someone else. Basically, get another controller.

You will need to buy an extra controller if they want to play together, the Wii only comes with one. Of course, they can play with just one, but they wont be playing against each other.

Also,if you are getting Wii sports, make sure you have a good space for them to play in, the amount of swinging/running about you do is unreal. I hit my brother with the controller countless times while playing tennis.

and get Mario Kart as well, and buy more than one wheel. It will keep them entertained for months, i cannot explain how much fun it is, it never gets boring.

The issue of space is a good one to make, as is making them always use the wrist strap-my son narrowly missed my shiny new LCD TV and smashed a vase above it!!

Haha, yes, that is a very good point to make, the writst strap has saved me on numerous occasions.

You can play multiplayer on some games with only one controller... although the only one I can think of is the bowling because you're taking it in turns to have a go. Possibly a snooker-based game would work in the same way.

I would recommend getting Wii Play, because although it's not brilliant, you get a controller with it - and it's pretty much the same price as a controller on its own. I would also recommend buying a second nunchuk, so they can do things like boxing on the multiplayer option.

And I'd echo the Mario Kart and the second Wii wheel comment.

Thanks guys. They have plenty of space, just moved a few things, and I will go buy one tomorrow I think alone with extra controller, Mario Kart, Wii wheels, and extra nunchuks. God I hope this keeps them occupied and fit when it's raining too badly for them to go outside. Sounds like it's gonna cost me a small fortune. Anyone win the lottery this weekend and fancy helping me out? ;)

Thank you so much everyone for your help! My boys are incredibly happy with their new toy and I have to say I can't wait for them to go to bed so I can have a go on Mario Kart!

Hah, you are going to get stupidly addicted to that game. Kiss goodbye to normal life for a while.

After initially liking Mario Kart, I've grown to dislike it - the weapons are bloody annoying.

I would probably love Mario Kart if I wasn't in school or had a job. I'm just waiting for Animal Crossing. (Though I think Little Big PLanet for the PS3 is amazing and I'm going to play it now.)
