The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues
#362737
In light of the recent drop in the Rajar Figures and the push to find the missing listeners, perhaps it would be interesting to gauge the opinion on here on what we feel works and what doesen't in the current format.
To try and get the ball rolling:
Hot: CPC, The Golden Hour, cheesy song
Not: The very long 20minute intro at 630, a song at 640 would be no bad thing.

Are you kidding? If they played a song I would have to get out of bed, this way I can wake up the the cheesy song (still my favourite way to wake up.....well second favourite but that doesn't happen very often) and then I get to lay in bed, sometimes for half an hour while they waffle on. I make it a rule to not get out of bed during links, only during songs or the news otherwise I might miss something funny.

When Scott is on I have to get out of bed almost straight away, no time for gradually waking up and who likes that?

Oh and....

Hot - all the random waffling, parodies, Dom's Shiny egg for a head

Not - the lack of theme tunes during Ramble and just any general weirdness connected with Ramble. It's not as fun when it's just Dave shouting it....it's still fun and impressive but not as fun. Although I understand if it is done all the time it gets dull but they've not done any weirdness for ages now.

I LOVE the whole 6.30 chat thing and the longer they go on, the better.

I think they need to give Dave abit of a kick up the arse because i dont think recently he's been coming up with as much good material, as he did in the shows last year, etc.

He has got a new kid though which, from what I'm told, causes a lack of sleep and sanity and rational behaviour. I wouldn't expect him to be on top form.

The 1st link is usually my favourite, Chris getting off his chest general stuff from the day/ night before!
To make it better, I would like to see a few more guests. They seem to have dried up a bit compared to a couple of years ago!

A song?! I'd rather they just chat straight through the whole 3.5 hours than play songs. The intro is my favourite part. I only get up and leave the room when I'm sure they'll be playing 2 songs in a row.

I wish they'd bring back Viaduct!

Dont get me wrong i love the show and all. What I was getting at with the comment about the 630-7 chat is that at that time in the morning, personally speaking a big loud song is just what I need to wake me up! Its just sometimes its closer to 7 by the time this happens.

Hot: Kicking late guests off the show...the whole incident with KellyOsborne last week was brilliant. :)

Hot: 6:30-8:00 and 9:00-10:00

Not: 8:00-9:00 when some no mark celebrity is in plugging something...however I understand why they are on the show to appeal to their demographic...and whilst I'm in that demographic for me the best interviews are those that don't happen like Kelly Osbourne!

Wouldn't know - I am not up early enough to hear it!

Hot: All the links, chatting and the voice changing machine
Not: Repetitive playlist, apart from Friday when its Golden Hour. That puts me in a good mood!

I don't want to pick out specific aspects that I do and don't like, as I simply enjoy the show as it happens. However I do tend to turn off when Chris is on one of his "I think this is funny so I'm going to flog it to death for weeks even though everyone else can see it's OVER" kicks. Voice changing machine would fall absolutely into that category. But the thing about the show is that it IS about Chris and what he finds funny. If there are bits I don't like, well, I stop listening for ten minutes then come back. Its not rocket science.

The whole show format is good for me however the fact that the show is tied into the same playlist for the whole week means some of the songs can get repeatative. (mainly if you hate the song) Hence why im a big fan of the golden hour personally. Just my pennies worth :)

Same here! Well, sometimes my alarm has gone off and I'm drifting in and out of sleep, but I never really register what the conversation is about.

The only thing I don't like is that occasionally Chris will overplay a voice message or clip of a celeb or something similar and the repetition will irritate me, but he's always done that so I've learned to live with it. Also on the occasion that Dom makes 'comedy' phone calls, it usually makes me cringe cos I can't stand to hear people being wound up and embarrassed. But they are comparitively insignificant aspects of a pretty long and usually very funny show.

I'll be honest I haven't listened to the show live for ages, nothing to do with the quality but more to do with the fact I don't get a chance to listen to any of it anymore unfortunately.

However listening to the Podcasts of recent they've been on form as always. I can only assume the missing 50,000-70,000 that have dissapeared are those "fickle" (for want of a better word) listeners who drift from station to station every six months (there's one of those in my office).

I don't think he's got too much to worry about & that the press will jump on it because he's Moyles & people see him as an arrogant pig, blah, blah, blah when he's been proven not to be.

I think he's safe for the next 2-3 years at least & to be honest I can't see who they'd replace him with & not just on Radio 1, on any commercial radio station, unless they bring back the Mark & Lard Breakfast show   :D

It's interesting that everyone obviously likes and dislikes different parts for different reasons. For that reason alone, they should be applauded for keeping everyone happy. It can't be easy!

The opening link... I'm in two minds - on one hand, some of the best chat has come from there. On the other, I don't move out of bed till they stop talking which makes me roughly fifteen minutes late each day.

Pah. I sing along to that each day.

Also, on a related notes, someone asked me what day it was the other day. I replied by singing "Thursday". :?

I need to listen to more Wogan.

Hahaha Foot's sings the day jingles. I quite like Holly singing the International Radio 1 bit. And I don't think a voice changer EVER gets tired.

Hmm...

Hot. The contributions Cheggers makes and the fact he is so involved with the show.

Not. What Yuds said. Case in point "Hirarious!"
