I dont know if we have any F1 fans on here, but christ, what a race :D :D :D

That's quite possibly the most exciting end to any race, let alone a world championship. Amazing stuff.

Well done Lewis

The majority of the race was piss poor, but the start (when the track was drying) and particularly the last three laps were amazing - it's the most incredible end to a race that I can remember and I've been watching F1 for a lot of years now.

Good for Lewis, he absolutely deserves it - a bit of luck at the end, but hey, we all need a bit of luck every now and again. You have to feel for Felipe, but I wouldn't rule him out for the next few seasons, he's quick and he'll be up there.

What an incredible year of sport for Britain - quite probably the best since certainly I've been around, perhaps quite a bit longer than that. As much as I tend to dislike Sports Personality of the Year, I've never known so many people genuinely deserving of the title.

Well, I've been watching Lewis since he was in Super One, so I think it's brilliant.

You're such a racist !

* Just in case, that's a joke it's the sort of thing idiots say when a comment about someone with brown skin is criticized, not my actual opinion, or no implication that Balls does indeed have any extreme views of this, or on any other matter, apart from that of him being extremely sexy, which of course is a complete load of bollocks.

Seriously those last few laps were like the best Rocky film ever.

The sceptic in me was trying to work out if they could have gotten it to rain on purpose using some sort of James Bond Baddy rain making thing in a volcano on a South Sea Atol, but then I realized this was highly unlikely, even though Mosley would make a great Bond baddy.

Overall though, WOW Amazin.

You know what, I said to my brother last night that I didn't like Hamilton and that I wished he had lost, and the first thing he said to me was "why is everyone so racist when it comes to him"........ and he wasn't joking......... he along with Hamilton is also a tit.... and he's white, so that's not racist.

I agree the race was amazing, high drama right at the end, I'm just so gutted that Glock couldn't hold him off..... great driving from Vetel though it has to be said.

Well, he's mixed race to be fair - and I think most mixed race people tend to consider themselves black, if anything. By the same token, you could say Obama is white; but that doesn't stop people calling him (potentially) the first black President of America.

Sorry, I forgot to reply to that last bit - I meant to quote the Vettel bit, which I am in total agreement with.

Baggie, why are you so anti-Hamilton? I don't follow F1 particularly (although I've been more aware of it since he came on the scene), but he seems to me to be a pleasant, inoffensive kind of chap who doesn't rub his lifestyle in everyone's face. I mean, you don't see pictures of him all over the gossip magazines even though he goes out with that Scherzinger woman (who looked so sweet yesterday soaked to the skin with all her make up washed off and her hair all messy from the rain). All in all he seems pretty low-profile, certainly compared with some other F1 drivers. How has he offended you baggie?

I did mean my brother, not Hamilton. Incidentally, doesn't Lewis's dad look a lot like the fella from Hotel Ruwanda.

And I'm not sure why he offends me so much, I think it's more the hype around the tripe and the whole "he really deserves this" attitude everyone seems to have. They all deserve to win it, they have all put the same effort in and gone down the same route towards their stardom. But Lewis was on Blue Peter don't you know, racing remote control cars at the age of 7, so he's worked harder than the others.

Plus I also think that short men shouldn't go out with tall women, he looks like her child when he stands next to her.

Oh... I also disagree with you Yuds on the whole "low-profile" thing... he's bagged himself a pussy-cat-doll.

Hamilton generates a lot of interest because whatever your opinion of him, he does make the sport more interesting. For years people have been complaining that you can't overtake in Formula One any more, or that it is too difficult to do so - and Lewis has basically proved all that wrong, he's proved that the problem is that most of the other drivers don't have the balls to try - and that has played a part in generating the animosity with the other drivers in my opinion.

That's another thing. He seems to be getting all the glory for "making F1 interesting again". It's not just him, Vetel, Bourdais, Glock, Massa, Kubica et al....they've all combined well this season to make it exciting.

All good drivers, I agree - but not in as much as they don't overtake as often; well, they probably do because they are more often in a position to, but if you take the number of times Lewis has been behind, compared to the others, he doesn't waste laps and laps following people before he has a go.

Incidentally, Vettel, particularly, I think will be challenging for championships quite soon - if he gets a decent car under him.

I think that makes his lack of photographic coverage in the crap-media even more impressive. Most people in his position would be out there making sure they had their picture in everything, with their tall pop-star girlfriend on their arm. They are very rarely pictured or written about. I think that constitutes, under the circumstances, a low profile.

By the way, I wasn't trying to argue with you Baggie, I don't care about Hamilton of F1 either way really (although I'll give it a glance if its on)- I just wondered why you seemed so angry about people supporting him.

Apologies to you my Scottish boyfriend, I've been busy with work of late...... very busy. I was in your hood the other week actually..... in Paisley. What a poo-hole that place is.

Anyways, not sure if the brand thing was a publicity stunt..... like you say, it went wrong if it was. It's been blown way out of proportion though. Getting told off for saying she's a satanic slut..... I was under the impression that that was the name of the band she was in.... I may be wrong though.

It's just so not fair, I want one, and if I don't get one I will Skweem and Skweem and skweem until I am sick

Bags, you work with Cars don't you ? Is this hatred generally felt by members of the support team who never get a mention or the mega bucks whilst the slick kid gets all the attention ? Does sound like a bit of the 'ol green eye there me feller.

Ha - I like your edit Boboff, but I don't imagine there's any jealousy there on that front - Baggie's wife is considerably more gorgeous than any of the Pussycat Dolls.

I'm out of the cars now Boboff, but I don't think it's that. I seem to have a problem where I develop an irrational hatred for all things Fad. When people jump on the bandwagon, I jump off and throw mud at them.

But that's just me.

There are a lot of people who think the phenomenon of people becoming interested in a sport only when there is a participant doing well from their own country is somehow contemptible. I'm not so sure, I think its just inevitable. And if some of those people who have never cared about F1 before but follow Lewis Hamilton have discovered a sport they really enjoy but wouldn't have looked at otherwise, I'm not sure thats a bad thing.

I've been following professional cycling for about 15 years now, but I don't have a problem with the fact that its become more popular because of British success. At the last World Cup event there were (according to Ed Clancy) "about 7 people watching" - at the World Cup in Manchester this weekend it was an absolute sell out. If that's a bandwagon, I'm not sure its a bad thing.

I agree Yudster - anything (well most things) that generate interest like that can only be good. Die hard fans will always say they're just bandwagon jumpers and true, with some people, their interest will die down - but there are a lot more people who will be getting up to watch the Australian Grand Prix next season, for example.
