So it's the big moment - Obama vs McCain. All that's missing is the chance to call in and nominate...

Who do we want in then? Personally, my thoughts are you dont want McCain anywhere near the big chair. (For a start his oven chips simply aint as good as everyone says they are.)

Obama bumping off his granny the day before elections was a nice wee manouver!

I would agree with your thoughts on McCain, but I think Obama comes across as a genuinely decent politician - a rare breed indeed and I think he will do well, so even if McCain was a decent Republican candidate, I would likely still be hoping for Obama to win. Also Sarah Palin?! She may well be a MILF (and she is), but that is no qualification for the White House. She has some scary views.

I think as Republicans go McCain is certainly more liberal than most. However, the thought of that 'scary, can't string two words together, I'm a soccer mom look at me, creationist', Sarah Palin taking over when McCain goes off to the big oven tray in the sky is enough to make me boke and truly makes me scared for the world.

I don't think either has particularly strong policies, but it's Obama for me. At the same time, I certainly don't think this election is as clear cut as many say it is.

I'm concerned that McCain may be a lightweight in terms of ability, and that Obama has no political background or credentials at all. It's more of a personality contest than anything else.

Hillary Clinton would have been a better president than either of them.

But part of the job of being a good leader is having a good team around you - and Obama has started well in that respect, with Joe Biden.

I just love the way that on the map it's the big city places. Dallas, New-York, LA etc that vote blue and then the whole rest of the country that votes Red. The people who live with culture, art, literature etc vote with progressive views and then the rest of the slack jawed, red-neck, inbred, banjo playing, sister marrying yokels vote to to outlaw civil liberty and reject modern scientific thought in favour of a return to the dark ages.

I've always been a city boy me.

People are forgetting that it's not just the person they are voting for, it's the party as well. Bush is republican which means you don't want them in charge again.

Democrats for the win!

I think that in America, more so than in Britain, people tend to vote for the person to be President, rather than the party to hold Government. I could be wrong.

I think it's worth remembering that many 'progressive white folk' may talk the talk in the polls and in public, but won't walk the walk when they're in the polling booth. Many of them won't be able to bring themselves to vote for a black man.

Either way, I predict a short lived presidency for whoever wins.

When we get images and such from America, more often than not it's the people from the metropolitan, cosmopolitan, sophisticated cities we are listening to. That being the case its easy to forget that the vast majority of the USA is reactionary redneck wilderness country, and most of the population lives there. I will be surprised if Obama gets in - although I don't think he's a brilliant presidential prospect by any means. I also agree with foot loose about the Republicans. I think this election is a lose-lose situation for the USA.

When I first started listening to Moyles, I wondered if Paul the voiceover guy was actually him doing an impression.

No.

She was a mentalist that wanted to be in charge so much it was creepy. Someone who wants power that much should never EVER be given it.

As much as I think a wummin president would do Americanland a lot of good - it certainly shouldn't be her.

Obama. America needs a kick up the arse, a black President would do that.

Sadly, I think if Obama made it to the White House, he would be at a great risk of assassination.

Alot of ignorant folk in America dontchaknow.

(Daily Mail note: My thoughts regarding Americans are NOT representative of my thoughts regarding ALL Americans. I also didn't sleep with Manuel from Fawlty Towers' granddaughter.)

Americans mostly identify with candidates rather than parties. Some people are staunch members of the GOP or the DNC, but it's not like it is in the UK.

Hillary Clinton would not have made a great president. She's not her husband and she'd sell the country for a bit of power. I don't trust her and didn't vote for her.

Obama is not going to fix this country, but he's a step in the right direction.

I gotta get back to the polls. We've been swamped all day.

I find it weird that so many people wave signs and cheer. I'd happily stone most politicians. Why Americans go so mad for politics I have no idea. All seems a bit weird to me.
