My aunt's ex (and the father of my cousin) is in hospital at the moment, as he was in a car crash and got a broken knee (the lorry driver who went into him is being prosecuted for careless driving) and he picked up a so-called hospital 'superbug' (the name of which escapes me now) and now he has no white blood cells whatsoever. Tis a bit bleak for him at the moment.

It is indeed - and that sounds nasty, I hope they keep him stable until his immune system can catch up. There are various blood products they can give him which would help boost his white cell count but its a serious situation.
