For those wanting bullet points then fill ya boots:

8 Steps to a good upgrade deal
- No such thing as freebies
- Review your usage and requirements
- Compare deals with other networks
- Deduct any RRP of freebies and compare deal
- No 14 day on upgrades
- Call retention customer services
- Wait until 09 for new phones
- Ensure questions are asked

For anyone who wants a brief sentence in summary:
Do not go into it blind, check and compare as many options as possible, do not get screwed over and accept any help you can get.

The last question Bruvva is:
What phone/deal did you go for in the end?

Sorry Chris but you have never had a 14 Day on upgrades instore. I have worked for O2 for the last 4+ years and at no stage have you had this option. However there are exceptions for O2 Online and O2 Direct. See Paragraph 11.2 and 11.3 of the T&C's.

It is worth mentioning though that Statutory Rights are not affected by this and on many occasions managers discretion is used to give the best customer experience if you do have a handset you can not use. So yes, sometimes changes can be made to the Handset and or Tariff but you technically are governed by the t&c's. The main reason for the 14 Day is so you can check network quality/coverage, as this can vary by location, and it would be no good having a phone you can not use because you have no signal in your area.

I've always had that option presented to me, and have used it once before. Upgrading in store. Maybe things have recently changed, or perhaps related to my status with o2, who knows.
