What is the greatest Christmas song ever?

John Lennon, Happy Xmas (War Is Over), Fairytale Of New York, The Pogues & Kirsty MacColl, Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, Bruce Springsteen, Do They Know Its Christmas, Band Aid or something else?

This Day in Music have launched a poll to find out what your favourite Christmas songs are.

What song would you pick? You can see a full list of songs and vote on http://www.thisdayinmusic.com

I was thinking about this when they were talking about Cliff Richard this morning. I'm not a Cliff fan at all, I find him a bit creepy - but my favourite Christmas song of all time is Saviours Day. As long as I don't have to watch the video.

Why do you keep saying you aren't supposed to be here? Are you expecting someone to remember you from yeeeeeears ago or something? If so, you'll have to wait for Topher, he'll know what you're on about I'm sure.

I know everyone says it, but Fairytale of New York is just sublime. It's one of my all time favourite songs, never mind Christmas songs.

What are you doing back Mr Lewis?

Mull of Kintyre.

I also agree with Boboff and Zoot's suggestions as great Christmas songs, but not the best.

They're all good. I love Christmas songs.

Quite a few of them are pretty miserable really. Fairytale of New York isn't exactly a bundle of laughs.

I've thought of another one I absolutely love - Gaudete by Steeleye Span.

I really love Gaudete too - but it always makes me think of Alan Partridge now.

Hang on. Surely the best Xmas song has to be Dominic The Donkey?

Dunno. Thought of this place and decided to do my annual random posts. Any of the old guard still about?

I agree with you on fairytale in new york, absolutely amazing song whatever time of year you listen to it. Another one just came to mind... "Step into Christmas" by Elton John, for a funky festive feeling (alliteration ftw)

Edit: Just realised a gapingly obvious one that has been unmentioned.... Wizzard "I Wish it could be Christmas Everyday"
