Who saw the Blackadder programme today (not the Scrooge repeat, the 25 year look back.) Amazing to think how much I love a programme that is as old as me, although, thinking about it, the same could be said for just about any comedy series I like - some older.

Anyway, I liked how they admitted the first one was basically shite - I mean I think most people kind of hold that view, but for the people involved to say it was interesting. Also, how the final scene of Goes Forth got to be exactly how it ended up was very interesting. All in all, though, I think Mrs Yudwuk's view of Rowan Atkinson out of character is probably spot on - though I did enjoy seeing him as himself because he tends to be quite the recluse.

Also interesting was how the programme itself ended - with all the cast coming up with their own ideas of when and where a further series would be set, but then effectively saying it's not going to happen - which is probably best, all things considered. I enjoyed it anyway, and I'm not normally one for Christmas telly.

Blackadder and Red Dwarf are probably the two classic comedies that have eluded me thus far.
Still, I have it recorded and it'd probably be quite interesting to see.

They don't make them like that any more. I found myself agreeing with Tim McInnerny, most people wouldn't want to see them as they are now, only as they were.

Interesting that there was absolutely no mention of Back and Forth though. I'd hate to think that the BBC were skipping over that purely because it didn't involve them.

I don't know, but the boxset, which I believe the BBC were involved in, did include it.

I think I saw something like this a few months back. If it is the one I'm thinking of I think it's quite old and possibly before the millenium one. I certainly remember hearing ages ago they were saying about the idea of a 70's one with "Bald Rick" someone watch it back and check the Numerals at the end. No wi-fi here.

I think there was one on UK Gold not long ago, but it didn't have Rowan Atkinson in it.

The fact they used Viva La Vida by Coldplay in it would indicate it was made this year. Also, they kept referring to it being 25 years old - taking us back to the early 80s.

Rowan Atkinson didn't appear as grumpy in real life as people make him out to be. I think maybe people just expect him to be more like his characters, whereas he seems pretty 'normal' (albeit a bit quiet) when not performing.

Just watched it - was a good show. I dunno if I want them back for another one, Back and Forth was piss - and as Munki says - they all look too old now.

I think maybe if they did one when they were really old. Like set in a retirement home or something might work. Good excuse for Blackadder to be mean and miserable and Baldric to be stupid and daft. But it would have to be when they were properly old.

I've seen him interviewed a lot- when he's himself and not in any character he's a very quite, polite, perhaps even shy, man. I think he is amazing in character, even more so because of how he comes across in real life.

I watched the programme, and I loved it when Stephen Fry opened the case to find the Gold Breasts that Melchett had in Blackadder II

Tim McInnerry's quote about people not wanting to see them as they are now...I was disappointed, but on the conflicting side I agreed with him. I want to see new Blackadder, but I want to see it as they were then...

It was interesting to see what they actually filmed, in the last few minutes of their studio access. It really was utter, utter rubbish. Amazing how they took a steaming pile of crap and turned it into something so poignant.

agreeing with munki bhoy and Topher- so glad that they decided to slow it down...made the worst ending to Blackadder ever into the best, most poignant ending ever...I remember seeing something about it years ago, it was either Richard Curtis or Ben Elton talking about a member of their family being disgusted with them making a sitcom about something that was still relatively fresh in their minds- when they saw the finished piece they were extremely impressed.

Since I saw the original recording of the going over the top piece, I appreciate how emotional the finished piece actually is...
