Andy B wrote:Michael Caine would be good. As would Johnny Depp or that Harry Potter Bloke.

Ooh Helen Mirren would good. And Robbie Coltraine would be a cracker!

Robbie Coltraine, would that mean the Tardis Doors would have to be CGI'd on each time ;)

Too cruel?

Perhaps someone on here can shed some light, I've only seen bits of it so I'm not sure if it's been mentioned in the past.

Also, she played the older version of Susan in the Chronicles of Narnia film (in the final scene). Coincidence?

I take it you mean as in grown up (I really must stop drinking cheap lager)

Well I didn't want to say anything earlier but I had to turn them down due to other commitments.

There's a bit of speculation that Robert Carlyle who's in the new Stargate Universe has been asked to do it.

Wonder who the new Companion will be?

Well, I promised not to say anything but I'm the new companion, a fat, balding *

In all seriousness the names bandied around a lot of recent are:

Paterson Joseph (current fave to get it)
Chiwetel Ejiofor
Hugh Grant (in all seriousness both RTD & The Moff had said they'd like him, but that could be to stop the real one being leaked early)
Sean Pertwee

But it may not be any of these yet, we'll find out in less than 24 hours :D

QUOTED as I buggered up some of the wording

See I spent nearly 5 years as a bookie. I've learned favourites aren't worth trusting. As much as I'd love to see Patterson Joseph get it I doubt it will be him.

I like Chiwetel Ejiofor, I have seen him in a few things and if he got the Dr Who role he would be mainstream enough so that we could actually find out how to say his name correctly, which I have long wished to be able to do.

Apparently it will be revealed in a special Dr Who Confidential at 5.35 this afternoon. I have to say I think I will try to watch.

My money's on Jim Broadbent or Martin Kemp.

The BBC have a tried and tested way of recruiting high-profile roles it seems, just like they did with Tennant, in 'Casonova' - one of the things which helped launch BBC3, if I remember, so he was quite well-known even before he became the Doctor.

Matt Smith, his face is somewhat vague, I haven't really heard of him, BUT I have a good feeling about how versatile he could be - the role of the time lord, it's like a second life due to the huge commitment it demands, so I am sure he will grow into it, and as the programme states, Tennant will be on hand to advise where needed.

Indeed, and let us not forget that Tom Baker, when cast, was virtually unknown when he took on the role, to this day he's the most famous Doctor of the lot

I have no idea who he is. None at all.

would have been better if it was giving to an oactor who was even a bit better known, but hopefully theyre will be some crossovers like in the past, were tennent can come bk as the dr. , even if it is for 1 episode

An interesting choice, I'll give them that. Currently, I don't like it. But that is probably because I've never heard of Matt Smith the actor, I knew a Matt Smith the salesman and he wouldn't make a good Doctor, and he's not David Tennant whom I happen to like as the Doctor.

But I was annoyed when Christopher Eccleston chucked it as I thought he was great. If anything, Tennant was better. Maybe Smith will up the level again. Or at least maintain it.

Still, we've got some specials to get through first. We don't get Doctor 11 until Spring 2010.

I have a feeling he is going to be good. He's one of those names I wouldn't have known, but his face is definitely familiar - didn't he do a Philip Pullman thing with Billie Piper the other year? Or am I making that up? No I'm not - I'm sure he was in The Ruby and the Smoke or whatever it was called.

I like that he is not repulsive to look at, but not conventionally pretty either - he has an interesting, strangely attractive face which should work well. I hope they don't focus too much on the ludicrous hair though, that will get annoying very quickly.

I think with Moffat in charge now we'll start to see a darker Doctor with spookier episodes. I watched Blink again the other day and it STILL puts the willies up me.
#370217
Well, the look of Matt Smith would lend itself to a darker, more mysterious Doctor. But bearing in mind how bright, open, fair and smiley David Tennant is, he managed to do dark and brooding pretty well too when it was called for.

I think he looks a bit like that guy who was Dennis Pennis. Paul someoneorother. Very oblong shaped head.
