jon holmes used to do sunday evenings (networked i guess? capital i dunno?) on power fm and it was with some other guy (someone hurst? andy i think) and it was quite good. bit of a mark and lard rip off but it was still good. did he write on the 11 o'clock show?
Jon Holmes did Power FM with Andy Hurst, they won awards but got sacked in the end because Holmes refused to use their new slogan (or something like that, I can't fully remember to be honest). Jon Holmes then went onto Virgin Radio, he was hosted to be as controversial as he virtually liked (from what I've read), Andy Hurst only appeared on pre-recorded segments which were usually totally off the wall, sometimes sick, but made me laugh (and was the start of me broadening my choice in stand up comedians, etc).
Jon Holmes got sacked for two reasons, 1) was for Swearing Radio Hangman for the Under 12's which was wrong but funny at the same time (especially after a few pints

) The odd thing is though that parents were persuading their kids to take part, yet he got lambasted for it. The other thing as well was that it ran for six weeks on Virgin Radio until the boss pulled him in the office & said to him, perhaps you should stop it by now. 2) was for the Adam Ant incident, again a sick one, send the Eliminator (his Broadcast Assistant who would do some dodgy things, nominated by the audience) to go an interview Adam Ant in the hospital he was staying it, The Eliminator got in but security confiscated the phone, the aftermath was funny mainly as it was The Eliminators own phone but Jon Holmes' own personal mobile (DOH!)
Virgin were then fined £75,000 (a record at the time until Bam Bam on Kiss100 got them an even bigger fine a few years later) and thought that if they were to sack Jon Holmes (of which they put up for a Sony Radio Award but later withdrew because it would "have been embarrassing if he had won after he got sacked" (sic) and of which Jon Holmes himself said was a load of crap as he said he wouldn't have won an award for that show anyway) the fine would be cut, but the old Radio Authority didn't.
Thing is Virgin Radio got loads of emails about both Jon Holmes & Mark Fox when they were let go in early 2002 yet all Virgin replied with was "they weren't suitable for the station due to the direction we were taking the station in" (sic) That direction was a bland, boring station sadly.
However his 6 Music show I rather enjoy, in fact more than his old Virgin Show now. I think it's because although he still goes over the line a bit he is a bit more controlled by his producer & the like, whereas on Virgin he wasn't
