Some would argue that competition should have been binned in the late 60s and early 70s when the South Americans were just kicking people off the park. At least now they're trying to play football.

Its surely just an unworkable format though isn't it? With all the different leagues playing at different times of year how can you ever have a competition that all the clubs involved are equally committed to and prepared for? And if they aren't committed and prepared, its going to be a crap competition. Which is why its a crap competition.

Bring SO much money and interest in football in the Asian continents, you get about £2m just for competing in it, and another £1m for winning. The profit they must turn on it must be ridiculous.

Everywhere else it's Christmas week? Here? Old Firm weekend. Personally, I'm looking forward to Christmas. I hate Old Firm build up, even when we're not expecting to lose like this one.

Leeds have nicked our manager!

Devastated.

Still, look forward to any potential jingles made in his name. He did well for us.

There's nothing quite as sweet as an unxpected win on your rivals' patch. Well, maybe the goal itself, a very sweet strike.

I'd rather Liverpool won it than Chelsea, but to be honest, I can't contemplate that with any sense of reality. I still don't think they'll do it.

We've had a really good Christmas! A couple of useful wins, even one at home!

We win at Ibrox and go seven points clear. Since then, one point from six. With Rangers playing before us next week they could be top of the league again. We're a total shambles at the moment. To be honest we were before we played Rangers too. I think that result papered over too many cracks.

Doubly annoying since Man United are back on top too. How many more 1-0 wins can they jammy bastards get?!

City... good luck with all the mercenaries. The rest of us hope you get relegated.

Seriously, they can buy who they want. The Premiership will still be shit to watch compared to La Liga.

Easily. Nothing in the Premiership could live with Barcelona this season, but that's just the quality at the top of the league. There's an ever changing presence in the top four, unlike the Premiership where Aston Villa are noteworthy because they've broken the top four monopoly currently. I wouldn't be surprised if that doesn't last, though if anyone can do it, Martin O'Neill can. Once you get further down the league there's still good teams in La Liga. Do that in the Premiership and you're watching dross. Plus, the Premiership has nothing to touch a Celtic v Rangers game, let alone a Barcelona v Real Madrid game. It doesn't matter which of the top four play each other, it can't come close.

I'd still say that when it comes to the very top teams, the Premiership probably edges it for quality. They've definitely been the best in recent years. We'll see what happens when the Champions League starts up again this season though, I fancy that won't last. But as far as the league as a whole goes, it's La Liga for me every time.

I can't help think that's not a genuine question. I wish I knew what had gone wrong, I have a feeling Drogba might be a part of it.

It was a genuine question, and OK we are joint top,and i still find the premiership the best league in the world

Well they can't buy Kaka, and they realistically probably won't be able to buy any decent player who is used to or aspiring to European football in the next two seasons. Kaka isn't one to move for money anyway, he gives most of his away.

Apparently Robinho has had a row with Mark Hughes and is no longer with the team at their training camp in Portugal, or wherever they are. My heart is bleeding.

Robinho is upset because he wants to go home and celebrate his birthday, surely with all his money he could fly his family and friends to Manchester

I'm only guessing, but I reckon the dodgy variable in that plan is "Manchester".....given the option, anyway.

I love the way the Money City chairman has now come out and blamed AC Milan for the transfer not going through. He's claiming they bottled it under political pressure.

The fact that AC Milan > Man City hasn't seemed to have entered his tiny, arrogant little mind. Get it up ye, ya dick. As they say around these parts.

Neither apparently has the fact that there is no earthly reason why Kaka, with his personal beliefs, would make a move like that which could only possibly be money based. Money is not and never has been his main motivating factor - he gives the majority of what he currently makes away already. Whatever the clubs had decided between them, Kaka wouldn't have gone unless he thought Milan specifically wanted rid of him, which they obviously don't.

Interestingly, I have just realised that I know someone - a good friend of Mr Yudster's - who knows Kaka well and is in regular contact with him, not directly football related. I'll see if i can get some more info!

I just get the impression he thought about it, realised how much the Milan fans loved him and decided he couldn't leave them. If that's the way he thinks I like him even more. There aren't enough football players like that any more.
