Grammar.

What a well-thought and reasoned argument, thanks for that.

At least you know how to spell '*' and 'you', that's a start.

There are alternatives to that which would also satisfy everyone I think.
#371475
Would you give me the satisfaction of a proper reason as to why you feel you should be exempt from trying to spell properly? '* you' does not constitute a reason.

If a preference for correct spelling and grammar constitutes having no life...well, I don't think I've ever had one! Not that that surprises me that much actually.

There's no need for language like that. Don't beat yourself up just because I've seen foreigners with a better written understanding of the English language than you. Shameful really.

Kinda, but also pretty brutal to pounce on peoples errors....

I personaly have always struggled with words/spelling. I can on the other hand memorise long numbers (credit card nos for example) in less than 30 seconds....

I've had my spelling and grammar corrected, often. But without frequently switching to a spell checking programme, something i'm not prepared to do to forum post, I will continue to trip up. I loose no sleep over this situation, but It does make me smile when people jump and point so feverishly....

I don't consider you to be dreadful though, like I do with 'unclejoesmintballs'. And if you were to use Firefox, you can get a spell checker built in.

But the point is your posts have content, they make sense and as for the spelling etc, you try. Some people can't even manage the first part of that.

It may be the spelling, punctuation and grammar of certain people that gets jumped on, but it only happens because their posts are incomprehensible and usually banal and pointless too. Other people who have terrible spelling and such like don't get yelled at because they are entertaining, intelligent and actually post stuff that people want to take the trouble to read. Unclejoesmintballs will never be in this category, which is what makes him fair game, far more than his spelling.

Sorry for bringing up an old topic but just wanted to add that i think Chris is having more callers on the show because Howard Stern has a huge amount of callers on his show.

I know he listens to Stern alot and admires him. He has mentioned it in books, forums and on-air.

I like the callers being on-air though!

I don't agree at all. He used to have callers in the afternoon, then he stopped when he moved to breakfast (or possibly even when he was still on afternoons, I don't remember) - now he's gone back to taking calls again, I don't think it's to emulate Stern - Moyles has his own style, whoever he admires.

Callers are ok as long as they are good callers. Some of the dumbasses have been too dumb even to be funny.

I think (and this is judging by the shows I've listened to from 2000 & then from 2002) he used to do it quite a bit, just to fill a link but when the show got extended the audience were heard on air less & less. In actual fact between 1997-2000/early-mid 2001 they used to have features that lasted for several months before being dropped. However when it got to 2002 there seemed to be lots of "one off" games like "Who Wants To Be A Horse Or Mare?", "How Many Sugars?" & "Play Your Footie Leagues Right", for example

I do still wonder (on the odd occasion) that if Moyles hadn't have been offered the Breakfast Show, how much longer would he have stayed at Radio 1? The Breakfast Show has gone from strength to strength, yet the Afternoon Show (to me at least) went into a slow decline with no regular features (except Tedious Link) and (again to me at least) Chris & Dave seemed a bit "bored" with the afternoon show during 2003. Well from the only two shows I have that seems to be the impression I'm getting. Anyone else agree?

There was a general consensus on here that the show wasn't as good towards the end of the afternoons as it had been and I tended to agree with that.

Ah, glad it's not just me that thought that then :) I'll be honest it put me off so much that I only listened to the last Afternoon & First Breakfast shows because they were special shows. However it wasn't until mid 2005 that I really got back into the show again, although, TBH it wasn't all their fault, the music of 2003/4 was perhaps the worst of this decade. Thank God that started to change when Franz Ferdinand came out :D

Hmm, I'm not a Franz Ferdinand fan. I liked Michael though.

Fair enough, TBH last time I listened to music, back then was in 2001/2, both years were great (especially the former) but by late 2002 sh&tey Ibiza music reared it's ugly head again but this time with avengeance. Then all the Indie bands disappeared & Urban Gangsta Hip-Hop bilge took over leaving me with two genres of music I really dislike making 2003 awful (although since listening to those M&L shows I have found out that there was actually some decent tracks that had unfortunately been overshadowed by all the other crap that Radio 1 had on their playlist).

2004 started bad but then U2 came out with a new album & things started to pick up, also coming out that year were Scissor Sisters (hugely overrated toss) and Franz Ferdinand, of which at first I hated as everyone was going on about them (I was like that back then when it came to music) but are now one of my favourite bands.

However I think that the crap music effected the show somewhat during the last year, if the team aren't "up to it" on a particular day then if you've got some good music during the show then it doesn't notice. However if the team aren't up to their usual standards and the music is rubbish it can really turn you off a show, which is what happened to me in 2003 unfortunately.

Thankfully, however music on radio is alot more mixed and hopefully will stay that way for a while yet.

EDIT: Actually listen to Will's last show clips, listen in particular to the bits where a song is finishing/starting, the music is really poor.
