The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Hmm I might take a trip up there this Saturday. You never know who I might spot. Also, it'll probably be quite funny seeing them struggle a bit.

They won't struggle, they will be fine. I'm going to see them as I live 2 mins walk away from the foot of the mountain, looking forward to it :D

I don't think they'll struggle either, I did that when I was about 15.

When I was 15 I used to get up in the morning, go out and play football, stop for 10 minutes for lunch, go back and play football, run back to get my dinner, run back and play more football until it got too dark to see the ball. Then I'd repeat that every day of the school holidays in the summer.

Now I'm dead after my one hour of fives a week.

Also, my last couple of hill walking exercises have been great, but it's kinda sad watching kids bounding past you as you make an ascent. And folk out walking their dogs which run past you several times as they get too far in front and get called back.

Ha, this is true. I'm pretty sure I could do Snowdon again now though. Having said that, I'm not so sure I could do Kilimanjaro.

As for kids getting the better of you, I get that all the time, playing a competitive sport - they just improve so quickly and have bags of energy.

I just realised, I got Brecon mixed up with Snowdon. Just got directions to Mount Snowdon and realised it's up in bloody North Wales.
Seems though i'm from Caerphilly, which is South Wales, the trip is now off, as it's changed from 20-30 minute drive, to about a 5-6 hour treck

...?!?!

You're in Wales and not only that, you're 20-30 minutes drive from a mountain that you get mixed up with Mount Snowdon but sounds nothing like Mount Snowdon?

Tit.

You'd think he'd know that Snowdon is in Snowdonia though. And you'd think he'd know the name of the mountain down the road from him.

I agree with what Rachel said this morning, if anybody is thinking of going up Snowdon on Saturday, please be very careful. The team have got trained guides going up with them. Nearly every day I see the mountain rescue team going out in helicopters over my house towards Snowdon because people have gone up the mountain either not suitably dressed, equipped or are just inexperienced and have got into trouble up there. There have been over 20 rescues in the last few weeks. It is not something to be taken lightly, especially in this weather, there is snow covering the top of the mountain at the moment. So please take care if you are going to see Chris and the team.

Same here, I'd go out at 8 in the morning and come home at 9 at night, only returning for food! Always kicking a ball about or riding my bike. It's no wonder kids are fatter these days really. I know with the rose coloured specs on we always had hot summers and winters with 10 feet of snow, but even so kids do seem much less active these days.

How can you know so little about where you live? Surely you know if you live right next to bloody mount Snowdon or not?!!

People forget that the weather makes a massive difference. I mean, Snowdon genuinely is no more than a pleasant stroll on a nice day. My mother in law climbed it in flip flops for goodness sake. Its the "on a nice day" that is the important thing. Even a bit of drizzle makes a huge difference once you're halfway up. Increase that to proper rain, cold, and snow at the top and you really could have a problem if you aren't well prepared.

Absolutely right. Sometimes it's like there's a whole different eco-system between the base and the summit, even on something as relatively small as Snowdon. Mountain Rescue are always getting called out to avoidable accidents, just because some pillock went up in T-shirt and trainers, or thought he'd "race" his mate down a bit of scree. As a general rule of thumb, don't be that pillock.

Absolutely - I am a totally different pillock to that one.

In fairness, it was the 'nice day' scenario when I did it too.

Having climbed Snowdon a few times in the past....Why don't Chris and the team just do what I did....Take the train to the top?

Well if that's what you did, you haven't actually climbed it, have you?

Getting the train up sort of defeats the object really as they are training to go up Kilimanjaro. Besides, the trains don't start running until March

Chris mentioned that he read this thread on his show this morning :D If you want to hear him it was in the first 20minutes of the show.

He also mentioned it on yesterdays show, saying if you're coming to say hi, get photo's and autographs etc, dont bother, he's likely to tell you to * off. I found this quite amusing, blunt and to the point.
