It seems Mr. Moyles is the latest celeb to get involved in Twitter. Anyone here been bitten by the bug?

I'm on there, I joined up ages ago but I don't understand it. It all seems a bit chaotic yet pointless to me.

I joined up a few weeks ago and nicola_red is following me (oi oi), but I only really joined up to follow Stephen Fry and one or two others.

I can't work out what the point of it is at all.

It seems to me to be a way of sending a virtual text message on the internet. People can follow your message and you can follow theirs. Not sure about the practical uses, but now celebs are getting on board it's bound to really take off, at least in the short term.

What is interesting is how quickly trends can be picked up and followed - when the plane crash landed in the Hudson in New York, there were "tweets" about it, including pictures of the event, before any of the news wires picked up on it. The BBC and others then used these pics and descriptions in their early reports.

In fact, BBC News have a 'BBCBreaking' feed on there as well.

Been on there a while too - mainly to follow StephenFry and some mates. It is like micro blogging I guess. I don't "tweet" much, but it can be interesting at times, down right boring for a fair bit of the time I guess though.

Boboff you have to "follow" me before I can reply to your direct message!

Since you can comment on sayings on facebook, I don't see the point in signing up to it. Plus the facebook one works better by the sounds of it because you don't need to be linked to every person in the conversation to follow it. While that may lead to hilarity like "That's my hedge!", it would get very annoying very fast. Especially if you only sign up to stalk celebs.

The facebook app for the iPhone lets me do all the on the move saying updates and upload photos I take with it, so I'm covered there too.

The final killer - who really cares what I'm doing right now? I barely care. I use facebook for other things and update my saying every so often just because it's there.

Ergo, I'm sticking with facebook.

I have a feeling the novelty will wear off very quickly for me.

I think it will be better when people get bored and it feels less like an extension of this forum.

I think the BBC have single handedly made Twitter huge over the past week. Almost every DJ is talking about it.

Odd that, since other microblogging sites are available.

It's amusing me tonight rather than being forced to watch the football! I too am unsure of the point of it, Topher says it's a bit like a chatroom.

It doesn't need to be like a chat room, but today it was for us.

I've been on Twitter for a while, just to keep up with a few specific people i don't talk to much. Yesterday loads of people signed up and I felt obliged to start following them all (because most of them were from here) and it turned into an annexe of this site, with a few people embarrassingly trying to "chat" to famous people - I stopped following them all and now its fine again.

If it was, she certainly wasn't the only one.
