Um she's the show producer and ensure's everything runs smoothly and to time. She is also there to ensure that the policies of the BBC are upheld on a show presented by an independent contractor. She also bakes cakes in the shape of various celebrities faces.

Everyone needs love. Even morons who have to find something to moan about to get through life. Even if it's just yer maw.

Some maws have more love to go about than others. Oh yeah.

Not true. She doesn't like Andi Peters and she doesn't like the word puppies. Have you considered that maybe her job is to provide the voice of the BBC on an otherwise independantky presented show? Or that she may just be a nice person who tries to see the best in everybody and everything. I think if the works had a few more people like Rachel in it then it'd be a nicer world to live in.

And it might possibly have a few more records in as well.

There is a long long list of studio guests that Rachel has deeply disliked. However her job isn't to express her opinion on the show, it is to produce it. If Chris chooses to include his production team in his presentation as part of his show, thats up to him - but unlike Chris, Rachel is employed by the BBC, at the same time as working for Chris Moyles. I think she does incredibly well at the impossible task of serving two masters.

On a completely unrelated subject, I have a genuine interest in why you are called "cinderellaman".

Maybe after midnight he has turned back into a pumpkin? Or has a penchant for glass footwear.

But if I am Prince Charming, he's certainly not going anywhere near one of my balls.

I like Rachel, she adds some balance to the show and I think the corporate stuff and "time to play a record" is sometimes serious but also sometimes done in a light hearted way.

With a name like Cinderellaman, you just knew he was going to be a complete fister!!

Since he asked though, Radio Producer roles include....

* generating and researching ideas for programmes, getting them commissioned and contacting potential interviewees and contributors;
* developing content, writing material for scripts, bulletins and links;
* selecting music appropriate to the programme, the audience and the station;
* producing pre-production briefings for presenters, reporters, technical staff and other contributors;
* managing the logistics of getting people, resources and equipment together to the right place at the right time;
* undertaking interviewing and reporting duties as necessary;
* presenting or managing presenters for both pre-recorded and recorded output;
* checking that copyrights are cleared and that output meets legal guidelines;
* converting text, graphics, video and audio files into other formats;
* contributing to and making use of an archive of audio resources which can be re-used;
* responding to audience feedback, referring on to other departments as necessary;
* producing and making use of user-generated content, for example Vox Pops;
* using technology, such as Radioman, Cooledit, Protools and Adobe Audition, for editing and production purposes;
* ensuring that health and safety standards and trade union requirements are met.

I think Rachel has a valid case for being on the show myself......

I'm sure there must be many other radio producers within the BBC who can do all of the above, but who also have a personality. The word bland sums up Rachel perfectly in my opinion.

If you're serious then why? If you're into that kind of immature humour, listen to Scott Mills or alternatively check out Dick and Dom in Da Bungalow.

Sarcasm obviously doesn't translate as well as I would have expected it to on this forum. What kind of morons actually do like gunge and cream pies, in any context?

I quite like you Ella, this forum needs more straight talkers like you. However, I disagree with your opinion of Rachel. That's OK though, it's good to debate.

I like gunge and cream pies. Nothing funnier than a cream pie in the face, except possibly a fat man slipping on a bannanannana skin.

Thank you Topher, I appreciate that. I was beginning to think that the only answer allowed to the opening question in this thread is 'Yes, there is a point to Rachel. Personally I love her and think she is wonderful, as is everything she has ever and will ever do'. It's good to know that there are people who do think an alternative viewpoint is allowed, even if it is a negative one in this case. So that it's clear I'm not just here to moan about the show/do some trolling, I would like to add that I really like Chris, Dave, Dom, Aled, and I am beginning to warm to Carrie more too. It's just Rachel I don't like much.

Granted sarcasm doesn't translate well, that was why I responded how I did.

I can see your point, Rachel isn't as lively and funny as the others but I do think she's integral to the show just not as much as Chris or Dave as far as actual entertainment goes. I think her organisation of the whole thing is needed.

The question wasn't 'do you like Rachel' though, it's 'what is the point in Rachel',which are 2 completely different things.

I apologise if i came over a bit strong towards you :)

No worries, I know I can come over a bit strong myself sometimes. I'm glad we were able to straighten this one out. And as for Rachel, whilst I'm sure she does her job very well from a technical point of view, I'd just personally prefer the show to have a producer who was a little bit more relaxed (without being 'wacky' of course). But each to their own, I know many other people like her a lot.
