I enjoyed Vernon today, there was always going to be a bit of extra music. I would think management are more to blame than anyone else!

Bloody Whiley though, Chris is climbing a mountain and she won't do a Kylie tribute thing!

I think the extra music is a little down to management and a little down to Vernon - I think he just doesn't have as much to say for himself as Chris does. There was too much music for my liking but as I listen on iPlayer it's not a huge deal as I just skip it.

Thought the show was a bit dull today. I've never listened to Vernon on radio before and was expecting it to be a laugh a minute so was a little disappointed. I'd love to have seem what transpired if the team had been left 'home alone' with no replacement for Chris.

I have to say I thought Dave stepped up to the plate very well today. The show dynamic veered more towards Chappers and Dave than it did towards the Chris Moyles show I thought.

Vernon has huge and subtly brilliant boots to fill - he'll be fine. He won't be Chris, but he'll be fine.

I think Vernon is brilliant and wish he was on Radio 1 a lot more than he is, but I think he seemed a bit nervous and had a radio version of writers block. He just didn't flow as he normally does and seemed a bit stilted. That said, it would be totally unrealistic to expect him to be like Moyles and talk almost constantly for three and a half hours in a show that isn't his etc

I hope it will be better and flow more easily as the week goes on. I just want Vernon to be Vernon in the same way Chris is Chris and just let the team interject as and when. Vernon should be the star this week. And there was far too much music probably because Vernon couldn't think of enough to say due to the nerves and "weirdness" of it all

I think if he tried to be anything like Chris, he'd die on his arse and he clearly knows that - he just needs to do his own style, with the added bonus of having a witty team around him.

No, I agree with you totaly. But I just didnt think Vernon was being himself. The biggest mistake he could make would be copying Chris, but I just wanted him to take more control and pretty much make the show his in the way Moyles does. Thats all.

I only listen up till 9 because thats wen my work opens and I have to lose the radio, however I thought 6.30 - 9 was good. Its nice to hear another voice in the mornings for a change and VK being the legend that he is did a pretty good job, and if anything I think it was even better than his usual standard (which I still find very good) because he had a bigger team to have banter with. Looking forward to listening to it for the rest of the week

I thought he did well, there was a lot more music than i like, but i thought it was funny, and he let Dave do what he normally does, without restrictions.

I'm listening back to the show now, and it seems to me that Vernon is just trying to settle in and find the right dynamic with the rest of the team. He's definitely warmed up as the show's gone on. Dave and Carrie seem to have raised their game a bit to fill in any gaps (Carrie in particular seems to have talked more this show than in the whole last few weeks). There's a weird vibe between Aled and Vernon, I can't put my finger on it. I wish Vernon would talk up to the records a bit more rather than just stop talking and hit the button, that jars a bit.

All in all I'm enjoying it but the whole thing just goes to show how talented at his job CM is. To hear someone fill in makes you realise the skill it takes to make the thing sound so spontaneous and slick normally.

And now the news. Lead story, Jade Goody. WTF??

I hope Sara Cox gets Whileys spot full time she did a sterling job filling in for her, there is major jealousy issues going on there, if only today's show was being streamed live we would have seen the teams reactions to her remark. :x

Does anyone know why is it that Chappers can host a show on his own and Dave can't? I know when Scott's off and Chappers does 'Scott Mills Gold' They get around it by playing clips of Scott, but I'm sure they've had Chappers and Dave without Dave. Is it simply that Chappers is more qualified?

As for Vernon today I think he did well, he knows what a big show it is to fill as he's usually listening to it. I think he's a little hampered from doing his own thing as he constantly has to be plugging the climb and making sure they are ready to link up to Chris at precise times. Maybe that was the tension between him and Aled? I'm sure as the week goes on he'll get into the flow of things. At least we don't lose the football enthusiasm, just Bolton now instead of Leeds!

Not that I'm really a fan of Jo or anything but what did she say that was so bad? She said how much she enjoyed the show, then talked about not wanting to dance for comic relief. Did I miss something?

Dave can't drive the desk. Unless that's all an act.

I agree with everything Yuds has said so far. Vernon will warm up as the week goes on. He's not Chris, but then nobody is. I could do without all the music, too, but I do believe it points strictly to a lack of material. Give him a day or two more and he'll be in the swing of things. I have to say, I preferred the handovers without Whiley, too. Ah well.

I have to say that I do like Jo Whiley. I met her once and she was lovely. But even I did a sharp intake of breath when she was saying what a good mood she was in for a change having listened to Vernon on the way in. Maybe it came out not the way she intended, but to me it sounded like an awful dig at Chris.

He has done the Chappers and Dave Weekend slot on his own.

I like Vernon but I think he talks quite fast sometimes so ends up talking over the others abit! Also not a big fan of how he plays a song 10 minutes or so into the show but ok otherwise!

Chris is live on the show right now, he sounds abit weary!

Yeah, has been very odd so far this week having a song played so early in the show, 06:41 this morning!!! Aled didn't know what was going on!!!

I like Big V, he's a good honest lad. Of course Sunny is right, no one can properly fill Saviours boots, but Vern'll steer the ship clear of trouble this week.

Chris sounded very breathy this morning. Looks like th going is starting to get tough now. Really hope they all make it up, although it sound like Dixon is flagging.....

To be honest, it's a refreshing change to have someone I can listen to in the mornings when Chris is away.

He may be playing more music, but I'm really enjoying hearing Vernon - then again I've always liked him on the radio. He's a genuinely nice bloke and he's not an immature prat like Scott Mills.

I agree if he tried to do what Chris does he might just fail, but he's doing his own thing and I think it's working well.

I agree, the few links I've heard he's doing well, he's not Chris but then again do we want a Chris Pretender? Of course not.

Plus I agree re Mills, I don't dislike Mills but he can be an irritating git sometimes
