The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

I've been pondering...clearly I have too much time on my hands, but anyway... Matt Fincham: do his on-air contributions bring something new and entertaining to the show or could / is this role already filled by the others on the team?

As the butt of a lot of CM's mickey-taking he's certainly been involved in some funny links, but in my view they're funny because of CM, rather than Matt Fincham. Compare this to Dom or Dave for example, who often create funny moments by themselves.

Personally I've found myself disliking him more and more, but I may be being unfairly influenced by his inane and self-aggrandising Twitter updates.

Any thoughts?

He seems to be turning up more and more regularly now - similar to Aled when he started out. It was interesting to see he was included as one of 'the team' when they went to play Rugby.

As for whether I like him or not... I'm not really sure. He is a good target for the team, but he seems to try a bit too hard to fit in (I'm not talking about all the music stuff - I quite like it when he has a go on the piano).

I guess anyone new is going to be difficult to like at first, as we're all so used to the usual lineup.

Matt Fincham is the Broadcast Assitant & has the same role that Joce, Aled, Lizzie, Melinda, Rachael, Comedy Dave (Apparently) & Jude had, so is relevant to the team.

The problem is that certain roles prominence have changed so much over the years that certain roles seem lesser than they used to, for example the line up in 2000 was:

Chris
Dave
Melinda
Rhys (Until October 2000)
Will (From October 2000)
Jon (Friday's Only)

In that line up Chris & Dave were also the "dominant" ones on air with Melinda being the third person Mondays-Thursdays & Jon on Fridays (Melinda usually appears of mic along with Rhys/Will, on Fridays, but the rest of the week only Rhys/Will would appear off mic).

The line up in 2001 was:

Chris
Dave
Lizzie
Will
Jon

Chris & Dave were the same as usual, however this time round Will was on Mic three, and when Jon was in at the same time Will seemed to be on a main mic at the same time, Lizzie however very rarely used to appear on a main mic, could usually be heard off mic or on an intercom mic.

The line up for the first Breakfast show in 2004:

Chris
Dave
Aled (Still BA at this point)
Racheal
Dominic
Juliette

At this point they had a dedicated Newsbeat team, however they were only ever heard during the news bulletins, other than that it was mainly Chris, Dave & Racheal, Aled is vocal throughout but not as much as the other three.

Fast forward onto today we have:

Chris
Dave
Racheal
Dominic
Carrie
Aled (Now Day Producer)
Matt (Current BA)

The first five are all heard on air in equal measures, Aled is heard frequently when his time starts, Matt Fincham (like Joce) appears on air infrequently (although more than Joce it seems).

Melinda seems to be the only BA (Appart from Racheal on Saturdays) to appear frequently on the third mic. The reason for this seems to be down to whichever producer was on the show at the time. Producer Ben was heard on air regulary, Producer Richard (who never spoke) was the "missing" third voice and so Melinda took on his role as the third voice, which continued once Rhys took over as he seemed to prefer only throwing in the odd quip rather than contribute on mic as frequently like Ben, Will & Racheal. The same happened on Saturday's, Racheal was heard alot on air as the producer was Richard (yes the one that never spoke on air) so she was the "third voice".

However seeing that there is at least five team members currently on air all the time (six if you include Aled after 9pm) & the BA, these days, doesn't get a chance of getting on air to speak, most of the time.

He is the tea boy.

He is obviously talented (Piano)

He is obviously harboring ideas of being a star DJ (Student Radio) ala Aled

He will be trying hard to make a good impression, and increase his on air persona all the time, whilst still fulfilling his job responsibilities adequately.

He has Lego hair.

Interesting stuff. According to Matt he's the Assistant Producer of the show (http://twitter.com/mattfincham/status/1300177937). I don't know if that's different or if it matters.

Eitherway, I can't shake off the feeling that he thinks he's better than those around him and destined for greater things. Then again, the video streaming week proved that a lot of what you hear is in your head rather than what's actually happening.

Oh is he? He may have been promoted then, either that or "Broadcast Assistant" is the old name they used to use for that position & it has since been changed to Assistant Producer.

I'm not sure, although I don't think he thinks he's better than evryone else, he probably just feels the need to defend himself more than he really needs to because they all have a go at him from tiem to time.

He seems to have very little to say for himself in the main. I like it very much when he plays piano and, like this morning, cello - I would like to know what else he can play. As for Twitter, if you don't like his updates Ed, don't follow him, I don't so I don't know what you mean about them really.

I don't imagine anyone who works on The Chris Moyles Show is devoid of ambition - it would seem to be a requirement for a job on the premier radio show in the country. If he wants to make the most of his on-air opportunities, why not? So far the music is working out better than the talking though.

One thing that really annoyed me about him though - that "discussion" about his supposedly complicated love life. He clearly wasn't going to go into any detail on air - but that being the case, he shouldn't have been mentioning it on air at all. And yes, I know one of the others (probably Chris) was the one that brought it up, but if he was genuinely unwilling to talk about it then he shouldn't have engaged. But I suppose he was centre of attention, so that may have been the motivation, I don't know.

To be honest I follow him on Twitter for the same reason I follow the rest of the team, pure nosiness. It's not a question of liking his updates or not, I'm just interested in finding out more about him as he's part of my favourite radio show.

I also can't fault him or anyone for being ambitious - it's the way it comes across on the air that I find annoys me a bit, he just sounds like he's tolerating the rest of the team until he moves onto something better. I'm sure they all have plans to move up, the difference is the rest of them sound like their main focus is the show, and to me he always sounds as though his main focus is him.

I dont really like matt on-air. He just seems to be always trying too hard. Whenever he can get on-air, he will try. This week/last he has tryed to get on-air alot probably because Chris is away and he sees an opportunity.

To me, he sounds like he would sleep with the boss to get better job prospects! (probably harsh and untrue)

He is probably a nice bloke in real life but just an annoying tit on-air.

I never used to listen when Aled was starting out so cant really compare them. It would have been nice to hear Aled way-back-when starting out. Its not the same listening back to something in 2009.

 Well I have some earlier shows that contain Aled (with Will) than the one I gave you to edit actually, I've just got to get round to copying them, so expect them in six months

Haha!!!

I spotted that too! As he is clearly reading this, I ought to point out that as I know nothing about the guy apart from the aspects of his personality he chooses to share online and on-air, I am only basing my comments on those, and this is in no way meant to be some kind of personal attack.

Whatever else he may be, he's clearly smart, so I would assume he already knows that, and probably doesn't give two shits what some listener on the internet thinks. But it doesn't hurt to point it out, just in case I'm wrong about the smart thing.
