In september Chris becomes th el ongest serving presenter of the radio one breakfast show.(beating Tony Blackburns record). Since the breakfast show is the most important show on the station does that oficially make Chris the best ever radio one dj?oR does the like of John Peel deserve that title more?

The importance of the show has no effect on how good the DJ is.

Personally I think it's impossible to compare the variety that all the DJs have given. At a push, I'd say Chris is the best daytime DJ (closely followed by Mark and Lard) and John Peel was the best new music DJ. Closely followed by Zane.

Hmmm....well in my eyes Chris is a legend but so is John Peel.

Given that moyles has been on air for 5 years, I thought Blackburn was on for 7 years or something like that? Has he not got a long way to go then?

Edit - Just Wikipedia'd it. Chris started Jan'04 so he's a sixth of the way into his fifth year. Blackburn did 6 years 10 months. (Sep 67- June 73) it's late at night and I feel tired so my maths might be wrong but that looks like a shade under 7 years to me.

That's shocking maths, Andy B.

Tony Blackburn did it from 30/09/1967 until 'June' 1973 - that's a little over 5 years 8 months.
Chris started on 05/01/2004 and so will achieve 5 years 8 months on 05/09/2009.

The exact date depends on when Noel Edmonds took over the breakfast show in June 1973, but bradcali was indeed correct in his initial post by stating "in september".

How long was Tony Blackburn at Radio 1 presenting in total? Because, surely Chris will be coming up to a record in that area too. Hasn't he been there 13 years or something amazing like that....

John Peel will no doubt own a record in it.

Well - considering John Peel was there from 1967 until his death in 2004 - he was the longest serving when he died. I believe Annie Nightingale may have been there longer now than John Peel had been when he died though? I have a feeling she holds that record and let's face it, these days it's not going to be broken - they'll never let any of the current crop of presenters reach that length of service.

God my maths was awful. It made sense last night to me......

Been thinking about this one....

I've been listening to the Radio 1 breakfast show for a few years now and remember Steve Wright and Simon Mayo holding the spot.
I have to say that i've enjoyed every breakfast DJ, and let's face it, they have to be of a certain calibre to hold the flagship show.

That said, Chris knocks the spots off everyone as far as i'm concerned.

Definately one of the best of modern times (I can't comment before 1999 as I never used to listen to Radio 1 then, always Capital FM in my house in the 80's & 90's when they were actually serious competition for Radio 1 in London). I'd say he's up there with Mark & Lard and John Peel. Just a shame that the mass media feel the need to have a go at him all the time.
