The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

First of all just wanted to state i hate this pr**k:

Mar 10, 2009 - Capital FM breakfast presenter Johnny Vaughan was the only radio presenter to win at this year's TRIC Awards, and he managed to do it twice.

Johnny and co-host Lisa Snowdon were both in attendance at the Television and Radio Industry Club Awards, which took place this afternoon (Tuesday) at London’s Grosvenor Hotel.

The pair picked up the award for the Radio/Digital Radio Programme Category for the Breakfast Show, beating Chris Moyles and Chris Evans, whilst Johnny also scooped the award for Digital Radio Personality of the Year, beating off John Humphrys and Chris Evans again.

Johnny Vaughan said on winning today: “It’s great to see the Breakfast show that is most loved by Londoners getting the recognition it deserves. I’m also chuffed about winning my own award’.

The only reason i've posted this is because of the way he has worded the last bit and thought it might be worth something to someone......

10 years ago I would have defended Capital FM, not these days though

I'm sure Capital can be heard internationally via the web though :?

Either way the station is a pale shadow of it's former self, the days of them being a serious threat to London when they had Chris Tarrant, Pat Sharp, Steve Penk, Martin Collins, David Jensen, Dr Fox, Paul Phear, Neil Long & of course Chris Moyles has long gone.

TBH I'm suprised Capital didn't rename all of their stations they owned, before they merged with Global, to Capital Radio, they would have covered alot of the country then & possibly have been a threat to Radio 1, but they belw their chance.

Oh right, I thought Penky or Neil Long once said that they we're international, unless I've misremembered or the rule shave changed since 1997 :?

Ah, I used to love the Chris Tarrant breakfast show on Capital. Reminds me of being in infant school. :D
And yes, before you say, it is very sad that some of my earliest memories were listening to my little radio.

I used to listen to Capital when I was younger, Chris Tarrant and Neil Fox, listening to the chart on a Sunday and trying to tape the songs I liked (sshh!)

I then (shamefully) moved over to Kiss fm - hey I was 15 and going through my 'garage' phase - and then didn't really focus on radio until I picked up Moyles in 2005

And there is my radio life story!

I used to listen to Capital for years in the late 80's early 90's, and they were with out doubt the best station in the country. Chris Tarrant on breakfast was a genius, and 10 times better than he is on TV (kind of like CM). Ah....... the days of Russel Kane in his little blue plane. doing traffic amd travel!

Shame Capital is such a steaming pile of shit these days!

Oh really, as I say I do remember their DJ's back in the late 90's mentioning that you could listen to capital in the US, Australia, etc.

See this is where Ofcom get on my wick, every other firm that steps out of line & goes against the rules set in it's contract(s) gets a slap on the wrist, whether it be TV or Radio. Yet ITV seem to keep changing the rules that govern them.

Classic example, Channel 4 is really struggling to find the cash due to the credit crunch, etc. yet Ofcom have more or less told them that they have to merge with someone else to basically survive.

ITV was originally set up as 15 independent regions, all of which had their own set funding, etc. They all merged by the early 2000's and since then have cut back on loads of their commitments (Childrends, Religious, Factual Documentary, etc.) and Ofcom have bowed down & said yes to virtually everything they request due to money issues. Yet if anyone else wants to do similar they tell them to sod off.
