So Chris doesn't think that rivers come under the heading of geography?

There's political geography, which he seemed to be referring to, but surely he must know about physical geography too?

Yeah, but if you ask Cat what the difference between a river, a canal and a lake is, prepare to be enlightened!

Ah, I live for danger!

Cat, what is the difference between a river, a canal and a lake?

A lake goes no where, a canal is man made and a river goes to the sea. But how do you tell the difference between a river and a canal by just looking at them?

Look at the boats. If they're canal boats, that's yer canal.

Not at all - we used to have a canal boat and we kept it in moorings on the River Lea. Lots of navigable rivers will have narrowboats on them.

D'oh, I had a feeling someone was going to say something like that.
In that case, look out for locks. That's a sure sign surely?

There are locks on many rivers too - plenty on the Thames for example.

Whilst it is fair to say that some rivers are good at disguising themselves as canals, and vice versa, the issue was not "can you tell which is which by looking" but "do you know what the difference is".

And shouldn't this be moved to Ramble now?

It should yeah. I'm off to work though so can't begin to mess with anything. I'd probably delete something by mistake.

Well originally the thread was about Chris not thinking the answer to the monday night quiz question was geography related.

His comment about invisible bunnies made me guffaw a lot.

My little corsa was veritably quivering with mirth.

I was amazed that Chris didn't think rivers counted as 'Geography'. Surely the human side is just half of it?
