The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Read the sun online and mainly the publics view. Now I realise that the people who dislike him are pretty much in the minority on the website and that the Sun is meant for the lowest of the low, but reading some of the comments get me so pissed off. All they can say is that he is fat and (before the climb) they hope he fails. What kind of human being wishs someone that sort of thing. And so what if he is packing a few extra pounds? TBH he wouldent stick out when walking down the road (for his weight)

I realise that Chris is sometimes abit forward and maybe some may not get the stuff he does, but he is obviously very clever and, joint with Chris Evans and Vernon Kay (only heard him on breakfast but he was great), I find him the only DJ that I can listen to, and by far the best.

What do people find so bad about him? Instead of giving valid points they just become vile and from what I can see, they have no reason.

Just gets me so angry...

Sorry about that.

Fat people have always been seen as figures of fun. For a fat person to be the one on the nation's biggest soapbox is too much for a lot of simple minded idiots to bear. All they can do is bitch and moan about him cos unlike the fatty in their playground, hes not there to take their shit directly.

Him climbing a mountain must really mess with their heads, they can't call him a slob anymore.

I agree with your post. The thing is sizeism is perhaps the last taboo left, you, quite rightly, can't discriminate against anyone for their race, colour, sex, age or a disability & with all it seems (except ageism at times) it is frowned upon. However you can still mock a skinny or fat person & not much really ever gets done about it, in my experience of course.

whenever my mates say they 'hate' moyles, i ask em why, and they say its cause he never plays any music! then they sit there and laugh at each link! people just say they hate moyles coz they think its the IN thing, and maybe it was 10 years ago, but most of em deep down find him funny as f*ck!

I'm not really bothered about what other people think of my interests. I mean, Chris hosts Radio 1's flagship show, climed a mountain and broke the trend in terms of radio dj's (lots of music, poor quality conversations) and I like him, which is all that matters.

I have no problem with peoples opinions on anything as long as they are well researched and properly informed. Unfortunatly, when I discuss Moyles, and I ask why people dislike him, I get told that he is a racist, homophobic bigot. This is not a description of the person i listen to each day. I get a bit offended that they think I would actively encourage that kind of behaviour into my life.

Very well said Foots. To reiterate what I said in the thread about Stewart Lee, I consider most of the people who use this board regularly to be pretty intelligent, and I don't believe they would listen to someone who was a sexist homophobe.

I do also find that many people dislike Moyles' arrogance. When I was at home last weekend, the subject of Comic Relief and the Kilimanjaro documentary came up, and my dad commented that that's how Moyles often comes across, especially on tv. I knew I couldn't really argue with that so I just said "well, he is the saviour of Radio 1." :)

Do people not realise that the arrogance is a joke though? "Look at me" (says the funny looking little fat bloke) "Aren't I the most fabulous thing in the world"? Its a joke people, a joke!

Very well said mate
Moyles isn't for everyone and he doesn't pretend to be. There are people who 'get' him and people who don't, simple as that. The show makes me laugh every single morning, which is a hard task because I'm no morning person.

I've tried explaining this to people, who will follow up with "but why does he have to be like that" of which I reply "because it got him where he is today". People will then either roll their eyes & groan, or go "well I still don't like the fat c*nt/twat/tosser/idiot.

Yes get his weight in there whilst you're at it

Then when asked about why they don't like him they pick on his weight.

This is my main problem, fair enough they don't like him, I can understand his style doesn't suit everyone.

However it's the fat discrimination that annoys me, I imagine if he had been gay & people refered to him as a "big fat bender" people would complain about the use of "bender" and not the fat part.

Sizeism is the last of the "isms" not to be made taboo in todays society sadly :(

I am ashamed to say a friend of mine (well my friend's other half) has made a group on Facebook for whether it should be Moyles or Kay on at breakfast - it seems he no longer likes Moyles at all, as in finding him offensive!! Whereas I think he's become much more humble since the climb! Needless to say I've made my opinion clear!!
#379149
I follow MediaGuardian quite closely because of my job, but it really bugs me the way that they hate Moyles so much!

An article today is the perfect example...

...It's curious how these grim facts and figures are never mentioned when comedians defend their employment of crass, cruel and crap gay stereotypes, or when the BBC cravenly defends Chris Moyles or, most recently, when Rowan Atkinson voices concern that making homophobia a crime could spell the end for gay TV characters.

I hate the fact that they can keep accusing him of being homophobic... surely they shouldn't be able to accuse people in print of stuff like that without being able to back it up?!!?
#379153
It pisses me off when people have a go at him on the basis of something they have heard in the media. The vast majority of people who slag him off have never listened to him and yet they still think they know everything about him.

I've been listening to Chris since the weekend shows and therefore understand his humour and know when he is serious and when he isnt. People who only listen once or never at all, just don't realise that a lot of his baulshiness (sp?) and arrogance is an act and he is well aware of what he is doing.
#379172
I don't think Chris is any more homophobic than the next guy....My Missus brother wears a lot of wife beater tops and won't leave the house until he's done his hair and drinks "protien shakes"...every time he does so I call him a poof or start singing camp anthems at him (I have a whole playlist on my iPhone dedicated to him!)....that's not me being homophobic, it's me just taking the piss out of him.

There was yet more Moyles bashing on telly last night. I think it must have been on Graham Norton, as that's the only programme I recall watching. I'm honestly beginning to feel a bit sorry for him at the moment.

Ricky Gervais (who was on Graham's show last night) is another person who uses his arrogant fat bloke image for comedic effect. As Yudster said earlier, it is meant to be 'a joke'. Unfortunately this brand of humour appears to be lost on certain people.

Having said this I do appreciate the self deprecating humour of Scott Mills too. What can I say? They both make me laugh, and I enjoy laughing.
#379214
The problem with Gervais is that he just does the same joke over and over and over and over and over and over again.

There comes a time when the "i'm rich and powerful and don't care about the little person" joke is told so many times that we think it might be what you're actually like. Stop being 'ironic'!

And Moyles doesn't do that?

Merely that I believe Moyles is just as arrogant as Gervais and I do think his 'Saviour of Radio 1' joke is pretty comparable to Ricky going on about how much money he has all the time.

Not saying any of this bothers me, simply that that's how I see it.

I love 'em equally.
