Hopefully they will. To my eternal regret I never listened to Peel's show when he was alive, as I didn't really have my musical 'awakening' until it was too late!

I read his autobiography though, a fascinating read...if a sad one, as the book stops abruptly when Peel was talking about his days in America in the 70's, which is as far as he got before he died :(

His wife finished off the book though and added a real insight into the great man.

Ooh, I'd gladly send a stamped-addressed envelope and DVD if you'd be willing to burn me a copy of those!

I'm a big fan of John Peel, although I only started listening to him in his final few years. And yes, Margrave of the Marshes really is a good read.

I can't believe he would have been 70. For those who haven't heard him, his broadcasting style was in many ways unremarkable - no gimmicks, no hooks, no features - but he had intelligence, wit and encyclopaedic knowledge of his subject. He is still unique in broadcasting for his total dedication to - and astonishing ability to source - new music. His role in the music industry is hard to define, but the gap that he left is easy to distinguish.

I still can't believe he would have been 70.

He always will be unique in that way, I don't think anyone else will ever come close to Yudster's very accurate description.

I never heard his show but saw most of that Television show about John Peels record box with his most treasured songs, which was a fascinating insight into his wide musical tastes.

Very much missed & completely irreplaceable.

I would also like to add that I'm glad him & Chris made up, they disliked each other when Chris joined the station but thankfully patched things up not too long after he joined.

If it had not been for John Peel then I would have never heard The Smiths, New Order or a lot of the stuff that I'm enjoying just now.
