Apparently that right though - although there is a fondly held belief that it is brilliant for children to be brought up in a bilingual family, the relevant statistics show that it is more likely to be bad for them and cause long term communication problems. Shame really.

^That's what the child psychologist told her at the time, and she went along with it. I think there is some truth in it too, but to this day she insists that it would have worked if she'd persisted, and the real reason I wasn't talking to people was that I was simply born not a good comminucator (cheers, Mum) and tended to withdraw to my own little world very easily. I'm still that way a lot of the time.

When the second oldest came along, she was the opposite to me and totally hyperactive, constantly trying to engage with everyone around her and demanding attention. And she was always a much better talker than me. Mum reckons the doctor didn't take into account her kids' natural personalities. I'm still unsure about the whole thing. :?

My bosses sons are bilingual as their mother is French. My workmates son is also bilingual, I don't think it harms them, but different for each person I suppose!

It is a statistic (therefore flawed) and is probably demographically influenced as well. I think if I was in that situation I would do the bi-lingual thing, but only if both of us spoke both languages. I reckon it wouldn't be great if the child and one of the parents was able to chat away without the other parent being able to have any involvement in those conversations.

Hello, I'm female, 30 and a huge fan of Chris Moyles and the whole breakfast team. Get a bit tetchy if I don't get chance to 'listen again' (before it disappears off iplayer) to the bits I miss when I am in work.
Been in and out of this site for a good few years now but for some reason have only just registered today!

Hello everyone!

How old are you?
Twenty-one.

Are you a member of any other Message Board?
Various message boards, MUDs and chat rooms. There are too many to list exhaustively but needless to say I know my way around these sorts of things. :D

Is there a remote chance that you like Moyles?
I do! I started listening when I started university and it has been a daily ritual ever since. I also travel on trains a lot so the podcast has been a regular cure for the delays and boredom blues. I came to this site by accident but then I found you guys had archives of podcasts, TV appearances etc. and I was hooked. I'm currently working through the podcast archive so my thanks to the uploader.

Do you ever stop posting crap?
I try not to post crap but I guess I'm not the best judge of that. I've noticed a lot of the posts on the board tend to be people correcting other people's spelling but I won't be doing that because as long what I have to read is semi-legible I don't really mind.
