"Moyles, 36, whose contract ends in July, has started negotiations with the BBC, which is understood to have offered him a four-year deal. It is thought that he will decide to step down from his show next year and serve the remainder of the contract on other BBC projects. "

~The Times.

Oh shit. Is this it for Moyles on the radio?

Didn't he say something like 'I'm not leaving, i'll stay as long as you want me' in his set on Saturday?

I wouldn't trust the article at all.

And we've already discussed it in another thread. I believe it was Topher who pointed out that it's also a Murdoch publication just like the Sun.

Chris has gone on about this constantly, On This morning, at the big weekend, on-air and on anything else he could, and therefore people need to stop believing everything the press keep writing.

He is signing a 1 year deal to present his radio show, after that - who knows? He may finish he may carry on, only time will tell.

Ok.It's fine to say 'don't believe all you read", but there is, I think you'll agree, a marked difference between The Scum and The Times.

Chris Moyles 'WILL' end his radio One career sooner or later.
I just get a feeling people don't believe he will ever leave.

Anyway, we shall all enjoy the Moyles, however long he lasts.

Not in the ownership of the two though, they are both owned by Rupert Murdoch. Not in their aims either, they both want to sell papers.

Of course people know he will leave sooner or later, don't be stupid.

Surely you know how the media operates? They bludgeon a story/topic to death, squeezing every last bit of profitability out of it, then move on to the next flavour of the week.

Seen the papers recently? MP's expenses everywhere. Pig flu last week....taking bets on next weeks topic!

The media is notoriously fickle. I actually remember reading a story a few years back about a woman who was found in Africa who had had unprotected sex with hundreds of HIV positive men, but she didn't contract it. Scientists thought she could be immune to HIV and were going to perform some tests.

Didn't hear anything about it after that. The media ran with the story, then dumped it when something else came along, like the latest reality TV winner.

Oh I'd forgotten about that. Wonder what happened.

Seems entirely believable to me. Moyles wants to break the breakfast show record and put a bit of distance between him and the rest. He will then want to bow out on top and not with ratings tumbling and listeners calling for his head.

There is no way he would do another four years on breakfast so to leave next year sounds about right to me.

Chris won't be on R1 forever, as pointed out, but i'm sure dedicated fans will follow him to another genre... true, he will leave big boots to fill on the R1 breakfast show, but nowt lasts forever. Fingers crossed he'll be on R1 for a while yet.....

Funny thing is, is that alot of the Radio 1 breakfast DJ's don't last that long on air anyway

From Wikipedia (those in Green lasted over five years, those in Red lasted less than a 2 years)

Tony Blackburn from September 1967 until June 1973 (5 years 9 months)
Noel Edmonds from June 1973 until April 1978 (4 years 10 months)
Dave Lee Travis from May 1978 until December 1980 (2 years 7 months)
Mike Read from January 1981 April 1986 (5 years 3 months)
Mike Smith from May 1986 until May 1988 (2 years)
Simon Mayo from May 1988 until September 1993 (5 years 4 months)
Mark Goodier from October 1993 until December 1993 (2 months)
Steve Wright from January 1994 until April 1995 (15 months)
Chris Evans from April 1995 until January 1997 (1 year 9 months)
Mark and Lard from February 1997 until October 1997 (8 months)
Kevin Greening & Zoe Ball from October 1997 until September 1998 (11 months)
Zoe Ball from September 1998 until March 2000 (18 months)
Sara Cox from April 2000 until December 2003 (3 years 8 months)
Chris Moyles from January 2004 until present (5 years 5 months and counting)

Interesting thing is that since Simon Mayo they haven't had a breakfast show DJ last 2 years until Moyles became host (Coxy was the longest in between Moyles & Mayo with Goodier notching up two months only.)

Regarding him being unlikely to do the Breakfast Show for a further four years, who knows, I imagine Capital FM didn't think Chris Tarrant would host the Capital FM Breakfast Show from 1987-2004 but he did (is that a record for a Breakfast Show?)

As heard from the mouth of Mark Goodier himself, he was only asked to fill in for a couple of months as Steve Wright didn't want to take over from long-serving and successful Simon Mayo straight off.

Wogan did a 12-year stint at Breakfast on Radio 2 from 1972-84 and this time he's been on since Jan 1993 so he's not far off CT's 17 years.

Can't believe Steve Wright only did 15 months. It seemed a lot longer at the time.

Interesting that Steve felt that way back then you'd have thought he'd want to start straight away

I thought he did longer than that, I think he left suddenly though due to a certain Mr Bannister. Then again I though Evans was on Radio 1 for longer.

That list shows how many Chris missed out on the opening song from his first ever Breakfast Show (I think he mentions Blackburn, Edmonds, DLT, Mayo, Zoe & Sara but misses out Mike Reid who was one of the longest serving Breakfast Show DJ's)
