Well, the general advice has been to not buy Apple, I think that's a great help.

Yes, how dare they 'foist' upon us a technically better and, from memory, cheaper to license format. Damn them.

Of course it's cheaper to license, it's their own format! "Technically better" maybe in that it has video capapbility. Anyway, kinda going off point.

Apple don't own AAC, nor had any involvement in its creation. MP4, which is based on an Apple container format, was defined as a standard by MPEG. The MP4 container can hold audio in many different codecs, including MP3.

The 'Technically better' was relating partially to audio quality, but also to features of the standard - the video capability is something different entirely.

I wouldn't buy any Apple product because they always go wrong and their customer service is the absolute worst I have ever experienced from any technology supplier. And that's saying something.

I agree with Nicola, Zens are much better in my opinion. Main thing being I hate that you can only use iTunes for an iPod but can use anything for Zens.

Never had any problems with it, until now. I think it got too much sun sand and sun cream when I went to Ibiza

Wow, that's the exact mirror image of my experience. It's like some kind of warped matter / anti-matter phenomenomenom. I'm starting to go all Doctor Whooeeyy....

But the question was 'Which iPod?', so it's not much help at all.

In the EU there are regulations that limit the output of audio devices (that are designed to work with headphones/earphone/earbuds/etc.) to a measly 100dB (still quite loud). However, it is quite well know that a good quality set of headphones/earphone/earbuds/etc. will negate the effect of this somewhat and allow you to reach 110dB (that's ten times louder).

There's a Spinal Tap type gag in there somewhere.

You get to 'squirt' people, too, and as long as nothing unexpected happens (like the year ending) it's sure to continue working.

That was only the older 30Gb ones.

He should clear the older stuff off of his iPod - it's cheaper than buying a new DAP.

I have helped twice.

If you really want to buy a new one, go for the 160Gb version in black (purely because it looks nicer IMO). Can't see the average user filling that up in a hurry. It's not solid state storage though, my last one (80Gb) lasted just over two years before the hard drive bit the dust.

Removing older stuff off of the device is confusing - I must be out of touch. Although, as you said, Jocky85 is a 'she'.

Not sure, I thought it might sound 'scathing' (NB: I had missed out the 'h' there, glad I spotted that), but I don't think I did it right.
