I can't believe the ESC is next Saturday, only seems yesterday that Wogan was rambling about how bad last year's voting went.

I love Eurovision but I'm not sure how it'll be without Wogan. Norton should be a good laugh, but apparently due to his recent accident he's not allowed to drink, which might make things a bit less fun.

Why do people still watch this garbage? I know we don't take it seriously, but why do we even entertain it?

More to the point, why does we keep paying for it? I read somewhere that the whole thing is almost wholly subsidised by four of the large western European countries, with everyone else just chipping in what they can.

I also heard someone talking about how seriously a lot of the emerging countries take it, as a way of promoting their new national identities on an international stage. Fair enough, but they'd do a lot better if they developed a sense of irony to go with the ham and the cheese.

If it had been kicked off the BBC, that may have warranted a post.

I can't think of anything I watch on ITV at all, which is probably why, when I'm around people that are watching ITV, they're amazed that I haven't seen various adverts yet.

We came 5th apparently, that's a turn around compared to the last few years 8O

I liked the Maltese entry best - but it wouldnt have mattered how brilliant it was, a fat bird is never going to win Eurovision, not these days. I have to say that I thought our entry was definitely among the best, and Jade's vocal performance was THE best of the night by a hell of a long way.

I didn't see any of the voting because we watched Match of the Day - was there a noticeable improvement to the neighbourly voting patterns of previous years?

Not really, most of the votes were pretty obvious (Cyprus giving top marks to Greece, etc). But I guess Norway won just on the strength of their song regardless of tactical voting. That said, I didn't like Norway's song. The one I liked best was Germany and they came near the bottom! I suspect Germany's song just wasn't a "Eurovision song", which is probably the main reason I liked it (Dita Von Teese being the other one).

I didn't like the UK's entry either, and I thought Jade looked too skinny and very unsure going down the steps in the heels they'd put her in, which didn't come over well. There was also a hilarious moment where she got too close to one of the violinists and as he drew his arm out he clunked her in the side. That made me chuckle.

I probably wouldn't have watched it myself if I hadn't been at my parents' house with nothing better to do (God knows my flatmate wouldn't have put up with it), but I did quite enjoy tweeting about it with my gay friends as it progressed. Jonathan Ross was tweeting throughout as well, which was amusing.

I think the voting this year was half members of the public & half from a "professional panel" that may explain why the UK was higher than normal, that being said Germany & Spain (two of the big paying nations) still ended up at the bottom

I thought it was good last night, Norton did a great job. Granted he was never going to be Wogan but he did a good job and will grow into it.

I guess I'm alone on this forum in calling myself a Eurovision fan. I think basing the show on the quality of the songs is missing the point. They may be shit but its a very entertaining show and pretty much the only thing my family watch together, so it's all good fun.

I thought Graham was miles better than Wogan. An I liked the German entry too, Dita von Teese looked amazing, as always. That corset must have HURT!

Nah, she tightlaces every day, it won't hurt her at all now. Actually I like the feeling of a corset and from reading her book I'm pretty sure she does too, altho it is very restrictive.

Dita Von Teese is naturally stunning, she really is. Unlike people like Katie Price etc. I can't work out how people can say Jordan is one of the most attractive women in the Uk, she's so plain!

Dita von Teese just looks so different to - well to anyone really. She has a look from another era altogether - and she does it to perfection.

Very true. and all her own work too - she's been putting it together herself since she was a teenager, and doesn't employ a stylist.
