haha, definitely! But I've come to accept that there are lots of people who don't have these issues with food and so they're bound not to understand how it feels. It's men more than women, but that's not to say that there are no men who suffer from disordered eating - of course there are plenty.

I have a question for anyone who knows about chemistry and stuff.

A calorie is a unit of heat, yes? Calories are relased/used by burning, yes? If my slice of bread contains the potential for 77 calories, will that figure reduce if I toast it?

As far as I understand it, no. But if you sit in a draught while you eat it, you might shiver away a few extra calories.

I've often wondered about that. I would imagine even if there was a reduction it would be teeny, but on the face of it it kind of makes sense! To me, anyway.

I think a calroie is the energy required to heat 1g of water by 1c. So if you burn food to a crisp, the energy needed to do it is it's calories, by toasting it you are really doing this a bit before you put it inside you.

There we are answer is to eat your toast dry and burnt, then you will be 'ickle.

I wonder how many calories coal has?

I didnt swim yesterday, so I'm going today.

Did anyone see an ITV3 documentary last night which Fearne Cotton presented about pro-anorexia websites and the "proana" movement? It was horrifying and fascinating all at the same time - but I do feel it fell far short of being genuinely informative and helpful. I think Fearne - or the producers - missed a few points, and a few more tricks in making the programme. But the scariest bit was occasionally recognising myself in the descriptions of the mind-sets of anorexic women. I have come to the conclusion that whilst my behaviour isn't actively anorexic, my mind probably is. Yowzers.

So proud - I've lost 3lbs!

This is the week I've tried the least, done the least amount of exercise and actually stopped thinking about it! I give up on bloody diets! (carrying on with this one though)

can I just say congrats to Yuds who has lost 11lbs now!!!! Yuds, you are a star and a symbol of hope to all of us - especially me!

Thank you Lottie - I am celebrating with wine - prob not best for the diet but as I have not eaten anything all day due to excess work I'm figuring it won't do that much harm ;)

Plus I got to see my best mate today which I have not been able to do in ages and we have only had a bottle between us so I really am acheep date now! ;)

I'd say so! To be honest I knew full well it was unhealthy but it was only for a week and I'm not stupid enough to do anything that would make me ill. In actual fact I felt loads better while I was on it - my indigestion and headaches all disappeared.

I've never been of the opinion that a short crash diet is bad for you. It only becomes dangerous when you sustain it for a long period.

We're in the habit of making stock whenever we have a roast chicken, then freezing it. We had an amazing risotto last week, and we're gonna do a stew on Sunday.

See I'm stiull unconvinced - that document seems targetted to lay-people and the science quoted is very vague - and also
