The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues
#390721
I popped in for bits of the streaming this morning - it was good. I really enjoy seeing hints of the technical side of what Chris does - he'll be chatting away and now you can see him you realise that all the while he's checking things, setting stuff up, adjusting something else - fascinating really. And I also liked how they kept the stream going through the 10 o clock handover, and we saw Jo too - looking gorgeous, I hate her even more.

I have to warn you though Ed, if you do manage to watch - Matt Fincham is even more annoying when you can see his gormless great gurning, grinning face whilst he spouts his inanities and basks in the attention.

Thanks for the warning. I've avoided going on about him on here recently, but he's becoming more and more of a tit the more exposure he gets. You always know when he's arrived as you can hear his false laugh from the back of the studio above everyone else.

He should go and join Steve Wright, he'd be much better suited - when critics talk about CM's bunch of sycophants, there's only actually one who fits the bill. Perhaps spending less time trying to get his voice on air and more time trying to do his job right would be a good idea as well.

Now you see why I've been avoiding mentioning him for a while. :D

I'm sure I read somewhere that other DJ's rate him for his technical ability as much as anything else, when it comes to working the desk he's supposed to be up there with the best of them. Aled was talking in his thread about how he loops the intro to songs by working three tracks simultaneously and of course talking over it as well, it's a great skill.

I found it fascinating last time too, I'm really hoping to find a way to record it. Unless they put it on iPlayer of course, but I doubt it.

The original article says:

"And in response to audience feedback from the first phase of the trial (January 2009), this phase also includes on-demand content, for those that miss the live broadcast, and a mobile version of the console."

Does this not mean it will be on iPlayer

Me too!
My laptop is broken at the moment, and the site is blocked at work so I fear I will miss all 6 weeks of it!

You could try using Foxy Proxy (you'll need to also download Firefox) and setting up a UK proxy for the following: -

Code: Select allhttp://www.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/4/gtis/*

As far as I can tell, that's the only place where any Geo-IP technology is implemented (it would also be stupid to implement it twice), so accessing it alone with a UK-based proxy should allow you to access the live stream.

There's also a possibility that this would also apply to the rest of the iPlayer, but I don't know.

Not yet, I'm piecing it together now - I have figured out where I was going wrong, though.

Edit: I think I've got it, but I'll have to wait until tomorrow to make sure. It's a little complicated, are you a programmer of any sort?

No, but I can find my way around (very) basic Terminal / Console stuff on the Mac. I was planning to have a play around with this or this, but I'd need the address of the stream to do it, which is where I think I'll struggle.

Well, I've been using rtmpdump (v1.5a) for a while in my iPlayer script, and it works pretty well. I've included my current script below - have a play around with it tomorrow and see what you get.

getMoyles.sh

NB: There is no error handling in the current script.

Nice Script, thanks for that.

Cheers Console

EDIT: Weird, I installed get_iPlayer yesterday (which is supposed to be backwards compatible with rtmpdump if I understand it right, but I now get:

Code: Select all./getMoyles.sh: line 71: line: command not found
./getMoyles.sh: line 71: line: command not found
./getMoyles.sh: line 112: rtmpdump: command not found

Maybe I need to dig around for rtmpdump 1.5? This is in the Unix terminal on a Mac, so maybe that's making a difference as well. I'm at the edge of my understanding of this stuff, but I'll keep playing.

No video Tuesday and no video of today's show live. I also tried the Tuesday version of Zane's show.
All I get for all three is the text messages coming up and of course Dom's Al Fresco quiz today.
The management has locked those outside of Britain from receiving the live video.

Bummed. During the last trial I got to watch some of the show.

Interesting - so it seems because of the unique way the BBC is funded, people overseas are allowed to listen to them talking but not watch them doing it. :D

EDIT: Just checked the webcam, as the people administrating the PC obviously believe the live feed is a subversive influence. Why is the gimp Fincham in so early today?

I've altered the file above to be more compatible with you Mac terminal. At the top of the file is a variable in which you need to put the location of the rtmpdump executable, as the script currently can't find it in any of your $PATH directories.

To maximise the opportunity to have people say happy birthday to him and get his voice on the radio of course.

Ah, I forgot it was his birthday. Great.

Is he really only 21? He looks mid thirties at least.

By the way, if its incentive for anyone to look at the video feed who wouldn't normally, Carrie is looking absolutely gorgeous today.
