It's not your error, if anything, if it is an error, it seems to have been done by the person who uploaded the original shows in the first place. I double checked his site & it does indeed say 2/9/97 & 3/10/97. You wouldn't be able to tell, except for the "What's The Word Or Words" feature. However there may be a way of finally resolving this, on the 3/10/97 show Chris mentions that it's their 50th show, now if anyone know the date of his first ever show, we may be able to back date it & work out which one of the two are incorrect.

ID'ing them will be easy, if there's no sports results in the news, then I can cross reference the news stories with some of the various news archives that are about.

BTW JamieC21, were you the one that pointed the "Frothy Bevvie" clip out to Aled or Chris (Moyles) of which he has used since it was given to him. If so, you have gone right up in my estimation

Woah! that means you have some stuff from 2007/8, excellent, I have quite a few from late 2005 & random shows from 2006, although I am aware that on some Jon Holmes shows I recorded from 2006 there are some soudn dropping issues, so 2006 shows will be welcome

Good Stuff, lottery numbers also help as well, there's a website that lists every National Lottery draw since it started up, that's how I got round to dating Chris' Capital Fm show last year (I plan to redo this one next, along with the other Capital FM show)

Back on the case, I plan to copy the last "short show" (4:00-5:45pm) show this evening & may copy over one more tonight (possibly the first long one), I also plan to record a few more also over the next few days

One of the shows is from Thursday 2nd October 1997 - the one I had dated 2nd September 1997. It's dated by the story about Jack Straw about to make a speech at the Labour Party conference "later today".

By the way, whilst I'm in the dating mood, I've worked out what week the 'Summer 98' real audio files were from. They were from Monday 29th June to Friday 3rd July 1998. Chris was covering for Zoe Ball and Kevin Greening on the Breakfast Show from 6.30 til 9am. Of the 9 files that were there, I've got concrete dates for 7 of them, with 2 being some other time in the week.

Indeed it is, according to the Team Info pages on here, Chris joined BBC Radio 1 on Monday 28th July 1997, so just over a month before he left Capital FM. The Saturday 21st June 1997 show he mentions that "next weeks" show would be his year anniversary (obviously Radio 1 hadn't signed him by this point).

I do remember that once he had accepted the Radio 1 job & was finishing off his contract at Capital FM a similar gag would be played out at the start of his last few shows, for example:

Margarita Taylor: Oh where is Moylesey, he should be here by now, I'll give him a call

*Dials Chris' number, phone rings, Chris Answers*

Chris: Hello you're through to Radio 1 what song would you like to request

Margarita Taylor: Chris you're supposed to be here doing your show!

A little Synopsis of Chris' Capital FM show (from my own listening experience), which is a bit of random rambling really

The Late Bit with Chris Moyles on 95.8 Capital FM

I was first introduced to Chris Moyles by accident, one Saturday night in late 1996 I was flicking through the Radio & the usual crap was on (Radio 1 & Kiss were playing specialist dance music, Virgin Radio's music didn't interest me back then, although since then I have grown to like Indie/Rock music, and Heart 106.2 either played love songs or club music) however I switch onto 95.8 Capital FM & was surprised to hear the DJ talking to a caller (who was drunk) and was being rather rude to them, in a funny way. I wondered who this DJ was as I had never heard a DJ on air like that before & listening for a little while longer I was hooked, the music was good, the comedy was good & the callers were a good laugh as well.

Soon I was hooked to the show & was listening regularly, over that time Chris had become my favourite DJ, he's sharp wit & piss taking of drunk *'s was funny & was something that no one else I knew of was doing at the time. Regular callers included Andy From Basildon FM (who Chris got on well with) was know for broadcasting his own show from his bedroom, to his bedroom. He basically taped his own Radio show for his friends to listen to, I don't know if he ever broke into Radio in the end but he was always a good caller. Mr Camp was another regular caller, he used to call & talk to Chris about random things, and was called Mr Camp as his voice was a bit camp (in Chris' eyes) and from the example I have (which is on the sound vault archive on here, but needs re-recording) Chris has a go at him for doing something useful on the internet instead of using it for porn. The features were also great as well & rather random, one that did carry over to the Radio 1 show was True or False, which originated on The Late Bit and survived on Radio 1 until early 2000.

Although Chris did regularly "slag" off fellow DJ's on Capital he always had some good banter with Neil Long (now on Radio Jackie) & Margarita Taylor (still at Capital FM, now their longest serving DJ) who would pop up infrequently on the show, although Chris & Neil would always pretend to argue with each other on air. Chris seemed to also get on rather well with Chris Tarrant although didn't get on with everyone. At one stage Chris & Martin Collins (Freelance, most recently heard on Absolute Radio) didn't speak to each other due to a misunderstanding (which those of you who read his first book will know why that was) although they have since made up. His long running "feud" with Neil "Dr" Fox (now on Magic 105.4) still sort of remains today, due to Foxy's teasing when Chris was at Capital FM (which is again detailed in his first book). Chris does sometimes slate Capital FM (mainly Johnny Vaughan) but does seem to speak rather fondly of his time at Capital FM on the odd occasion when talking about certain DJ's there (most notably how nice Alan Freeman was, after the death of the DJ a few years back)

Chris unfortunately only did one year at Capital FM but I do wonder how different Chris' career would have been had Richard Park fought to keep Moyles (as detailed again in his first book), how long would he have lasted at Capital FM? Would he have still been presenting The Late Bit or would he have moved to daytime or even replace Chris Tarrant on the Breakfast Show. Would he have ever got to Radio 1 had he had stayed there for a few more years (which was Chris' original plan until that meeting with Richard Park)?

I suppose we'll never know the answers to those questions but all we do know is that The Late Bit was Chris' first big break in Radio & thanks to Capital FM giving him the show & Richard Park not fighting to keep Moyles, Chris has become one of the most successful & popular DJ's ever to grace radio in the UK and in such a short space of time, and hopefully he'll be on our airwaves for many more years to come.

It was a (one line!) article in The Sun on Tuesday 8th July 1997. "RADIO 1 has signed DJ Chris Moyles, 23, from London's Capital Radio to host a new early morning show, the station said yesterday."

I never did, all I remember was tuning in one Saturday & Chris had gone, only to be replaced by dance music I discovered him on Radio 1 in mid 98 by accident when I woke up early one morning but I couldn't listen to the full show back then (as I was still at school) & then tuned in one afternoon in early 99 & found his show again & more or less listened to it regularly between 1999-2002.

Yes, back then he seemed very unsure about leaving and wasn't sure if he was ready for Radio 1 then. However IIRC, in his First Book he mentions that Richard Park's reaction, when Chris mentioned that he had been offered a job at Radio 1, gave him the confidence to move to Radio 1, a wise move IMO, although it's a shame we didn't get two years out of him on Capital, it was a great little show, although it does sound a bit weird compared to the show he does today.

I've got it in my playlist just haven't got around to it yet, but looking forward to it. I started listening to CM regularly around 2003/2004 I think, towards the end of the afternoon show - the only earlier stuff I've heard is some of the recordings of the R1 early show that came from on here, plus a couple of clips from other stations, so it's going to be an interesting listen.
