Well, presumably we'll find out when the tests are done. Or are you asking us to guess, based on what she looks like?

Also, shouldn't this be in "Ramble"?

Why isn't this in Ramble?

Can you imagine it being asked in the national press if you were actually someone of the opposite gender. How humiliating. Someone should just check her bulge - job done.

It's off topic chat, surely? What has this got to do with Moyles or Radio One?

Anyway - a mod agrees, so how about a nice big cup of shut the * up?

I don't think we'll know until those test results, although, to me, she's one of the most masculine looking females I've ever seen.

Anyway glad to see we've got another medal :)

Depends on how long the hormone testing takes I guess. They must have some serious doubts to do this - I don't think they can just do it based on someone going "hang on, she's got a bit of a manly jawline"... :D

No, but everyone who says it should have been kept quiet for at least now is absolutely correct.

Its not the hormone testing that takes the time so much as the genetic and chromasomal studies. If she is someone who was born with gender dysmorphia it can take ages to establish the dominant gender - in fact sometimes it is impossible.

The IAAF have handled this incredibly badly. If this girl is shown to be female, they have probably ruined her life with this humiliating public debate. She's 18 years old for gods sake. If she turns out to be ineligible to compete as a woman (and an indeterminate gender result would bar her as well as a male one), well, from what I heard about her background, I'm unconvinced that she herself has actually done much wrong. She was born in a tiny rural and poverty stricken part of South Africa, brought up by her grandmother - and brought up as a girl, she wouldn't have had any question that that's what she is until other people brought it up. The question of her gender has only recently been raised though and I can see a scenario whereby she might be as surprised by all this as anyone. If the South African Athletics Federation has manipulated her situation in some way, well, it wouldn't be a shock, they have a pretty patchy record when it comes to the legitimacy of their athletes to compete for a number of reasons. So far, until there is evidence that she has been knowledgeably and willfully cheating, I feel sorry for her.

Bearing in mind the huge range of body types and shapes that women have, and how they are exaggerated by extreme training, that's not really a very accurate means of making a judgement though (although I'm not disagreeing with the observation as such). When the tests come back and say she's a man or she's a woman or even she's a gender dysmorphic hermaphrodite, then we'll know.
